My white capped pionus parrot, Sophie, refuses to eat fruits and vegetables. She only eats her seeds and pellets and dried fruits. Do you have any suggestions for fruit eating?

.my heart lept to see if anyone had answered you. Im having the same problem with my Parakeet. I read somewhere that you just have to keep introducing the food every day no matter what, even if it takes a year. I eat food in front of Bug that I want him to eat and use a key word (mine is YUMMY)I also look forward to hear the suggestions of others on this subject....Good luck Birdygirl and wish me the same :p

Haha, "Sophers"...cute! With my birds it really helps if I am eating the food I wish for them to eat. Usually they get envious and will come try to sneak a piece, and of course I let them eat all they want! Will Sophie eat bread-type foods? I often will crush up a few cups of pellets, then add a little flour, baking powder, etc. Then I throw all the fruits and vegetables I have into a blender, along with miscellaneous foods like beans, flax seed powder, calcium/D3 supplement...anything I have on hand that is healthy. Once everythign is mixed together and the mixture isn't too wet, I take small pieces and roll them in balls, and coat the outside in mixed seed. It all gets put into the oven afterwards, and my birds all like them. If I'm in a hurry, I just don't bake it and they like it fine mushy, though it doesn't sound like Sophie would. Like Wigg1ty suggested, just keep offering her certain foods. Try cutting them up into fun shapes (my green-cheek likes carrots cut into the shape of daisies), hanging chunks of fruits and veggies on skewers, making "sandwhiches" from bread and cooked carrots or sweat potatoes, anything creative and different. I've never had to do this but some people say putting the new foods in a cup higher in the cage makes them more appealing. Good luck both of you, and don't give up!
