I brought Cyclops home from the Humane Society shelter about 7 years ago. He had only one eye and his hair was a mess! But he was still just as active and crazy as the best of them. Not too long ago, he developed mouth problems. His mouth would get so sore that he couldn't eat. My mom and I took him to the vet and got him medicine. He had been fine for a while after that. Earlier this week, we noticed he was really skinny from not eating again. He was meowing sadly for two days straight. We kept giving him medicine and trying to feed him. Nothing was working. Finally, on Wednesday afternoon, he left and never came back. I don't want to give up hope, but the chances of him being dead are just way too high. My mom and I have been going to the shelters and we plan on going again tomorrow. They had a big catch and spay/neuter event this weekend for strays. The people at the shelter said to keep checking every few days. But how long should I go before I accept that he is gone? How long before I should give up?

Cyclops. I hope if you are out there, you come home soon. If you are dead, I hope your tiny cat soul rests in peace. I love you and miss you sooo much!

Oh I am sorry. Not knowing for sure is hard. It is possible that someone else has taken him into their home. Have you put up fliers and such around your neighborhood? Stay positive, never give hope, keep checking the shelters and put up fliers in the local supermarkets too.

Yes. My mom and I both put up fliers in our neighborhood. We also put them up the local vets, the park, and neighborhoods nearby. Thank you for the suggestion though. We will keep trying this. It has been rainy the last couple days and really windy today. It doesn't help having the weather being yucky while my sick cat is out there somewhere :(

We went back to the shelter again yesterday. It has been a week. He wasn't there and he wasn't in their "picked up sick" or "picked up dead" books. We left a flier with them with his picture and our phone number. They said not to lose hope and keep checking back. However, I am the only one in my household to still have hope. :(

I'm so sorry, I know how hard it is when you don't know what's happened to your old, poorly cat. Sometimes, and this is very sad; but sometimes cats, when they know that they are dying, prefer to die alone, and will wander away to find their own private spot.

HOWEVER!! This isn't always the case. There is still hope. I know of some people whose 19 year old cat was missing for MONTHS, and they found her at the rescue I worked at, safe and well!! This could be the case for you too.

If Cyclops is microchipped you have an even better chance of getting him back.

I really hope that you find him. Keep looking, keep trying. Best of luck. x

I'm sorry your cat has dissapeared, and while not feeling well, also. I can imagine how sick with worry you are.

I also pray that a miracle happens, and he returns safe and sound, but try to prepare yourself for the opposite answer, that he has crossed the bridge, where he'll no longer have trouble eating, and have sunny days to play with the other cats who are are also there awaiting their owners for that final meeting.

You're a good owner to care so much, and try so hard to find your lost kitty.
Don't forget, even if you never see him again, he'll always be a part of you, he left his pawprint on your heart, and in your memories.

I think I have accepted that Cyclops is gone. He had so many medical problems that he couldn't have been helped without his prescriptions. They were kind of expensive and unfortunately I don't believe that many people would have gone to the extent it would have taken to save him. My mom and I both think that the most someone would have done is pay to get him euthanized. I'm sure their heart would have been in the right place to do that. And I believe that if they did, they would have called. I put fliers everywhere for weeks now.

So, I prey that if he is still alive by some miracle, he finds his way home. If he isn't, I prey he rests in peace. I love you Cyclops and I miss you very much!
