Birdgirl:
I have the same thing going on with my little ones.....the Budgies.
They are very jumpy and active....Don't sit for one minute.
Snickers, when she wants to, will sit with us and enjoy head scratches and cuddling for long periods of time. She is sooo cuddly.
Marcel will sit on me and/or near me for hours....he's a perch potato and I have to
be sure to keep him active everyday.
My guess is that Barkley is so young and happy to be with you that she is jumping with joy!!!!
Keep petting and cuddling her.....she's probably just nervous now. You did a great job in taming Hamlit, so whatever you did will probably work with the little new one, too.
Good luck sweet Birdgirl.

Bijou only sits still with me when she wants to be petted and "cuddle" ... then she'll be off flying around and looking for things to destroy. She is very active, especially compared to Rio.

I've had my luvy for over two months and still can't get her to sit still, so good luck! :)

My husband compares the activity level of Bijou to a Jack Russell Terrier ... hyperactive, bouncing off the wall type ... :D

ahe is active and now that she is coming out of her cage more she is making a big mess with her food my mom came into my room today took one look at the floor and I thought she was going to fall over Hamlit never made any mess at all that. Barkleys new favorite thing to do is call to the birds out side my dad is not to happy about that but he says he can live with it and I can still get a grey even if they are bigger and louder;)

Ah, that's good to read your last sentence! I was wondering how your parents will ever be able to put up with a grey, since they're even messier!!! :)

well I know my parents might not say it but I know they want a grey I've even chought them reading my books on them thay want to see how smart they really are I'm happy for this because if my dad said NO then I couldn't get a grey until I moved out.

He-he! Yeah, my sister acts like she hates my birds for the most part, but the other day I caught her lying on the floor talking to my luvy and letting it climb on her! ;)

I agree birdgirl. The other morning a friend of ours came over to join the neighborhood garage sale and used our facilities... such as the bathroom. The bathroom is off the family room and when she came out she had to pass Taz's cage to go back outside - well, Taz gave her a vey loud "I Love You" and she was thrilled. She told all about it later that day when we attended the same party. Yet, don't think it has occurred to her yet to get a bird herself.

Funny, my husband (Bob) is same way - no more animals and no replacing if something should happen. However, our cat seems a little stiff and uncomfortable when picked up she meows loudly, who was first one there asking her "does my kitty not feel well?" "what is the matter?" We better take her to the vet. Diane be sure to make an appt. for Saturday!

This isn't about birds, but my dad used to say that we would never, ever get a cat since he's very allergic to them. One day some friends of ours came over with four gorgeous, vet-checked kittens that they were looking for homes for, and my dad said, of course, "No, I'm allergic". Well, about a week later, he found a young grey cat on the side of the road (we live in the country), got out of the car, and picked it up. He brought it to our house, and said that we were going to keep it! It had fleas, ticks, diahrea, was throwing up all over our garage, and some other bad stuff, but he still couldn't give it up! :) Diane- I hope your kitty feels better!

Sophie always sits still. Pumpkin, on the other hand, only sits still while cuddling.

Tweety will sit still for about 10 minutes, then she starts jumping around. She is a really crazy little one.

Jenny,
I didn't think to do an update here - as it is a site for BIRDS, but
upon reading your post about our cat feeling better..............
I called late Friday and made an appt. for April - 9:15 on Saturday morning - a half hour trip. Didn't relish getting up early enough to get there .........but we will do anything for our animals. So, I got up and got ready to make the trip - woke Jason (JSimko) who wanted to come with me and gathered April up to leave and then my husband decided to come also. Anyway we arrived at vets and were promptly taken into an examining room. The vet & his assistant began examining her and found a wound on her back flank- left side. There were two puncture marks and rawness around the area - we had not thought to check as we assumed it was an internal problem and since it was covered by fur - had not seen it.
The vet gave April a shot of antibiotic and a booster to her rabies vaccine. Her rabies cert. was good for another year but he said it is standard procedure to give a booster whenever a pet is bitten by an unknown animal. He sent liquid antibiotic home with us to administer twice a day. April had improved somewhat before the vet visit - but the shots seemed to speed things up and she is getting around better now and able to jump from the deck to the railing and down without any problems now. She is snuggling with us again - she had been avoiding being next to us on couch probably because she was so sore and bruised.
Also, Angel update: The tests the 2nd vet did came back negative. So, we will continue with more baths & mistings and love and attention..............but have accepted the fact that she may be featherless in this area forever........but we will love her unconditionally as she does us.
Diane

Great to hear about your kitty April, Diane! I'm glad she's feeling better. We've had the cat I mentioned for over five years now and after spending tons on vet care she was in great health and is a great cat, except we only see her about once every two months because she's an outdoor cat and since getting my second cat, she's preferred not to hang around unless she's having trouble finding something to eat, which is rare! We still try to take her to the vet regularly, but she's so unpredictable it's hard scheduling appointments for her.
:( Ohhhh! I hope you get your cat to the vet. What did you name him?
Birdgirl, if you want to hold your bird still, make sure his back is facing you, then put your ring finger and middle finger around his neck (make sure not to squeeze) and wrap your other fingers around him. This is a good way to be able groom him.

Thanks for asking about April - Jenny. It is great that you have been allowed two cats even though your dad is allergic. Is the second cat more of a homebody - or are they mainly outside cats due to Dad's allergies? What are their names and ages?

Have your cats ever noticed your birds. Our cat bonded to ours just like she did with the dog.
