HI Forum -

I haven't posted in a while. Just to quickly recap, I am Mom to Pepper, a 6 onth old Chiweenie. She is doing great. I had - still have - a lot of social issues with her, but she is finally sleeping quite well, and she really isn;t much bother at home - she's very sweet natured and loving.

Anyway - totally wrong forum this, but tonight my daughters' hamster - Honey - died. I held his paw as he took his last breath. It was awful. We have all been crying like mad.

It really made me think how devastating it must be to lose a dog that is with you for so many more years, and generally is a larger part of the family since it is running around and not in a cage. I can't even imagine how horrible it would be to lose Peps!

I'm sorry about the little hamster, they are sweet aren't they? We had one, Shelly, who developed a very fast growing tumor and we had her euthanized.

It's never easy to lose our sweet charges. I lost Max, my shih tzu, last March and it is a lingering saddness.

But you still have your sweet Pepper and many, many years to enjoy a happy life together!
(Welcome back ;))

Hi there and welcome back! I'm glad that Pepper is doing well. I'd been wondering how things were going at night - I remember you telling about getting up with her at night because of her crying.

I'm very sorry to hear about your hamster. I had a couple of hamsters 7 years ago that died 3 months apart. Their names were Harriet and Sophie. I was broken hearted. When I was a little girl we had guinea pigs out the wazoo and remember holding one as it took it's last breath. I cried like crazy as well. It's a heart wrenching thing to watch one of God's creatures take it's last breath. I'm glad you were there for your little guy. Like you, I can't even begin to imagine what life will be like when one of my dogs die. To be quite frank with you, I would probably fall to pieces. My dogs are the children of my heart and I can't imagine loving a human child more than I love my fur babies. When Bubba was a puppy and so sick, I was terrified of losing him. Now that he is 7 years old, the fear is greater.

Loosing pets almost kept me from getting Peanut, so I feel your pain there. I recently lost my cat Angel (Recent? 2 Years ago...still feels recent.)..she got leukemia ...The doctor said the shelter would have had to have lied about her getting a shot for it? I'm not sure, but she had to be put down. I couldn't even take her, my mom had to. But now we have Peanut who's only over a year old... looks like he has many more years of hyper activity. Lol. Best of luck to your dear. I guess with every great love in this world, there is also great risk.

Thank you for your kind words and welcome backs! The kids buried Honey today. They called me at work to let me know. It is so sad! :( He is in the back yard with Squeek and baby Bird, our other two little critters that have passed. No more for me, I can't take the heart-ache!! :o

I'm very sorry to hear about your little hamster, Honey. Hopefully your kids are taking it ok... I'm glad you're burying Honey as in my experience it helps children cope with the loss ... it shows respect to Honey and gives him the dignity she/he deserves.

I had two hamsters, Hami and Ham-Dini. Both were great little friends. We used to play all the time. I only wish hamsters had a longer natural lifespan!
