My cat has had a chronic type of ear infection that produces lots of wax when at it's best and pus when at it's worst. Been treated with Clavamox twice, on ear drops now (bytril otic) and was on drops Tresaderm.

Vet might want to do xrays , ear cleaning , and perhaps surgery if he finds polyps or deeper infection.

Mu question is , if no surgery is done , does anyone know if just using antibiotic and drops off and on for a long while (say years or as long as possible) is there any really bad things that could come of not having surgery? Otherwise , she is really well,. Eats, sleeps, plays , gains weight, and looks healthy as can be. She is almost 2 now.

Any experience with this anyone? Hate to put her through surgery trauma unless absolutely necessary. She is a timid soul and stresses easily.

Thanks :) tahoemom

Poor baby, ear infections, yuk, ouch. I've never had any ear problems with my cats, so I don't know if I could be of any help. Are her ear infections chronic? I'm just wondering how long will the antibiotics work for? I would let the vet decide on the best route here, because you don't want the infection to spread to the rest of her body, and cause more irreversable problems. Good luck, and let us know what happens.
