Lily has been scratching and licking alot lately. Temp in CA has changed dramatically from around 80 degrees to around high 60's. Could sudden change in temp be the cause? I know my skin does that if I dont moisterize it too well.
Thanks :)

Yes i absolutely can/ Their skin is like ours and some dogs have mroe sensitve skin than others. You can help her by bathing her with a medicated shampoo, or you can add something like salmon oil to her diet. I have been adding salmon oil to my dogs diet lately and it has made a difference, and he LOVES the taste.

Yeah, like Lindsay said. When the weather dries out, so does skin. I agree with adding fish oils or bathing in an oatmeal shampoo.

I boiled some salmon and mixed it with lily's dog food and gave it to her. I figured the real salmon would help her skin faster than dog food with salmon in it anyhow she loved it. She ate all her food.
I hope it helps moisterize her skin. Thanks for your suggestions. :)

Actually, i wasnt suggested dog food with salmon, but they actually sell SALMON OIL that you can squirt on the dog food.. I dont actually know if REAL salmon would be as good as the oil. The oil is extracted and condensed so that its more potent.
and just one meal of salmon is not going to help. I have been adding Salomon oil to cappys food for months.

We always tell clients you won't notice a difference for at least 3 to 4 weeks. Buying real Salmon and cooking it every day can get costly, I suggest either the oil or regular fish oils to help. They must be given daily.

yeah i wasn't going to give her fresh salmon everyday but only on weekends when im home.
Rest of the days, I was planning to mix natural balance salmon formula with her venison one.
Do they sell fish oil at petsmart or petco?? Also could it hurt her stomach??
Like upset stomach for few days until she gets use to it.
And this oil, do dogs usually like the taste or most likely i need to force feed her?
Thanks. :)

yes, they sell salmon oil and fish oil at petsmart, you can also get fish oil at the grocery store in the vitamins section..
It will not bother her stomach, it SHOULDNT anyways.. I bought a pump bottle of oil. It was $25, but worth it to me.. Cappy is doing better on it. AND it never bothered him stomach, and he has a VERY sensitive stomach.
My dog LOVES the taste. It was actually the reason for me buy it.. well, ONE of the reasons. I started using it because we WERE adding some water to the emptied cat food containers and pouring it over his food as like a gravy. We thought he might be allergic to the Tuna, so i stopped with that and used the salmon oil. He LOVES it. it does tricks without me asking him as soon as he sees that green pump bottle of salmon oil.
hey, that's a great idea..i've been wondering why Kye has been so itchy..i figured it was maybe because i gave her a bath when she came home, with puppy shampoo (she smelled sooo bad) and maybe it dried her out...i have since bought some oatmal shampoo that helped but not a whole lot. and maybe the salmon oil will encourage her to eat her food, because she doesn't eat alot.

I finally purchased fish oil for lily.
There were 2 kinds.
8 in 1 Excel Nutricoat Liquid Skin and Coat Supplement $11.99
Nutrivet Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil for Dogs $16.99
I got the cheaper one bc lily is very picky eater.
Go figure. When I put oil on her food, she didnt even want to touch it.
They both had great ratings from dog owners. Do you think she will like the salmon oil better?? Just dont want to waste my money on something she wont take.
They also have tablet form type. But not for salmon oil.
Should I try that instead??
Thanks :)

Just read your thread Happyday....yes the tablets/caplets by Lipaderm or the ones by Dermcaps work really well. But make sure you check the bottle and purchase the correct caplet size for her size.
I myself use two different skin "helpers" Nupro -the joint one with Gluecosamine (sp?) and Show stopper. Show Stopper is given to only Buddy since my hubby started him on it. It is a rice bran based formula with omega 3 and 6's as well as gluecosamine and he loves it. I mix it with water in his food and he eats it right down. Once he is done though, Im switching him to Nupro. It is easier to feed all of them the same.
Nupro is a kelp based formula and my dogs shine on it. I mix it with a little water and make a gravy that they find very tasty. The manufacture says to use the "loading"dose for three months, but I've seen results in about 3-4 weeks. The dogs itching has dropped off dramatically and thier coats are getting shinier and softer. Like you I feed the Natural Balance Venison and my dogs very much dislike fish even salmon. They love Nupro and I have not has trouble with the dog that has a very sensitive stomach. If you do decide to try it, you'll find it either in the internet or at an independent petshop. They also have a satisfction guarentee so you can get your money back if Lily won't eat it. Also as with any addition of something new to Lily's diet, start out slowly. Don't start out with her full dose right off the bat. Add it slowly into her food and this will help a lot. I do this with Mr. Sensitivity and it helps him adjust with no fuss!
Nupro website:

Show Stopper website:
www.an-nat.com
Anyway, I hope this helps you out! There are so many on the market its hard to pick one. I found Nupro by a recommendation from a pet shop that I really like and Show Stopper was recommended to me by a friend who owned a pet shop.
Best of luck to Lily! Hope she gets on the right track soon!
Cheers

Thanks Georgie for the infos.
Lily stopped eating after that incident. She is so picky!
After worrying about what to do about the whole situation, I changed the bowl and she started eating her food again. I guess even I washed the bowl afterwards she could still smell the oil on it.
Im going to still try to make her take the Lipaderm or the ones made by Dermcaps like you recommended. Im not sure about the powder one where I have to mix water to make a gravy out of bc i tried something similar and she didnt like it at all. Well If nothing else works, I might as well try it. I guess its not total waste bc I f lily doesn't eat it, I give it to Tigger (my bf's dog). He eats just about anything. :D
Thanks again.:)
