my white dog, a brison frise/cocker mix, has fleas. We have had him on Comfortis pills and we have also used Frontlline and Advantage but nothing seems to work. He is still getting fleas. We had been giving him Capstars but when the vet switched to the Comfortis we could not get them. Nothing we have tried so far has worked. We've sprayed our yard and our home to get rid of the fleas. What else can we do?

Fleas can be tricky and it's hard to get rid of them once you have them... but not impossible. When you say "sprayed your home and yard" what product did you use? I can tell you from experience a residential strength product from Walmart or a similar place probably wont due the trick. Also, if you live in a warm climate, like I do, the fleas never really die off, so year round protection for your pets is essential.
To really get rid of them my suggestion would be to do a whole house super clean. If it's possible keep any children and your pets out of the house when you are doing this! Clean carpets, bedding, window treatments, everything and anything. The key is doing it all the same day because if you do your carpet one day and then wait a week to do the bedding you will be back where you started.

Do you have other animals in the house that are not being treated? ANY other animals.. Birds, lizards, mice/hamsters, cats..

They all can possibly harbor the fleas..

Why won't the vet give you Capstar on top of the Comfortis?

You need to get on Sentinel. It's a heartworm prevention that you give once monthly, but also treats the environment for fleas. It keeps the adults from making more, but also keeps the eggs and maggots from hatching and growing up. It does wonders for a flea ridden environment.

Bichon/Cocker mix...? Does he go to the groomer a lot? There is a possibility that the soaps or bathings are washing away the topical flea prevention. Switching to Comfortis is a good idea for your dog.

Are you having your yard and house professionally sprayed for fleas? Or just for parasites...? Make sure they are doing fleas, some companies make you pay extra for that.

You must also know that the fleas you physically see are only 5% of the entire population in your yard and house. Make sure EVERYONE in the house (anything with fur) is being treated monthly for fleas.

other animals and your place can also be the source of those pesky fleas...

Frontline and Capstar are very good products, there's probably other source that give fleas to your dog. My friend has to hire terminator to thoroughly clear up the fleas in yards and trees.
