As you know Belle is pregnant. She is not eating well. Only 2-3 bites at a time. I do not know if it because she does not have any room with all the pups. Also, her temp has been low continuously. Is it normal for a dog to have a normal temp of under 101? Hers has been running around 98-100.7. I have not contacted my vet yet because I work 3 12 hour shifts and have not had time. I will be contacting her in the morning. But I was wondering if anyone had any ideas tonight so I don't have to worry so much all night? She is due between Nov 12-22. She is not showing any signs yet.

Maybe she's not eating much 'cos she's feeling nauseous. I don't know about the temp tho. Let us know what the Vet says

Sorry, I have no idea either. However, her time must be getting near, as I think the lack of appetite may be due to her getting ready to deliver the pups. I have no idea about the temp though.

Talked to the vet today. She said that some dogs just have a lower than normal temp but that it could mean birth is near. (It has been low for over a week. She also said not to worry about her not eating that the pups are getting everything they need from her. But last time she was soooo skinny after having her pups she looked like a consentration camp surviver!! I don't want her to go throught that again. I have noticed that her back bone is showing more but the pups are sagging so now. She said not to worry to let nature take effect, that she will have them sooner or later when she is ready. I might try and find another vet! I don't like some of her answers! And there is always some new student vet there trying to put their 2 cents in. I know they need to learn but not on my mommy dog!!!

Good idea to get a second opinion at least! Doesn't sound logical to me that it doesn't matter if the mother dog eats as the pups are getting what they need - what about the fact the mother dog has to nurse these pups after delivery? Gosh I remember years, and years ago when friends had a pregnant daschund and the vet had us feeding her cottage cheese and high calorie foods all during her pregnancy. If I recall correctly I think her appetite kind of fell off about a week or so before delivery.

P.S. - Please keep in mind that sometimes when nature tries to "take it's course" there can be some hang-ups, such as a puppy being too large to come through the birth canal or breach so then human intervention is needed to help the mother dog. I know you have experience with this - just wanted to dispell some of what the vet told you. ~shakes head here~

When Daisy was near the end of her pregnancy (almost 2 years ago) she lost her appetite as well. The vet said that this, along with the body temp lowering, is completely normal for dogs who are going to give birth very soon. How close is she to her due date?

She is due anywhere between Nov 12-22. We saw them tie up the first time on the 18th of Sept. But they could have tied up before that or during the night. She is eating small bites of food now and then. Her temp is fluctuating. But I did notice that the puppies are much lower in her belly today. Will keep you up to date.
