This is Brutus. I'm afraid his story is a sad one. He's been boarding at the kennel for a week, and his owner keeps coming up with every excuse in the book as to why he can't pay his boarding bill.
I guess his owner is in the Huber program and has been working in the nearby town. He brought the pup to the kennel and said his boss (he works as a mechanic) said he can't keep it there while he's working. He was upfront with my boss about his situation, but my boss, being the big softy, agreed to take him.
Well he came yesterday to pick up the dog for the weekend, but had no money, so of course my boss said no. Then he warned me that he'd be coming today and that I should only accept cash from him. We are normally closed on Sundays and only do pick ups for special reasons.
Well the guy comes, and he walks in the door with a handful of things. He sets them on the counter and proceeds to tell me this sad story of how his son was soo upset yesterday when he couldn't see his dog. He says that he'll leave the tools he just bought yesterday and the deed to his truck if he can take the dog today. I call the boss, the boss comes down and talks to him. He tells him he won't take the deed to his truck - so the guy says he's going to go pawn his tools. THEN The guy shows him a female from the same litter in his truck. (apparently a "friend" of his breed the litter and there were a few left and gave him one) Brutus has hookworms and roundworms and has no vaccinations....I feel so bad! His owner sucks.
Well that was this morning. This afternoon, my boss calls me back to say that the guy is coming tonight with cash to get his dog. He never showed. My boss's theory is he picked up the female in case he couldn't get Brutus and was hoping his son wouldn't know the difference.
Anyway, I cannot figure out what breed he is. My guess is he's between 2 and 3 months old. I was thinking he was an American Bulldog, but I don't think his muzzle is short enough. What do you guys think? He's gorgeous and a total sweetie either way, I feel so bad that he's starting off with what seems to be a ****ty owner. He's going to be huge! His paws are so big, he walks on his ankles. I hope that doesn't mean he was fed puppy food...

I'd say bulldog cross boxer maybe... No. Staffy or pit?
Edit: You said his name :o

he looks more pit bull and some either sharpe or hunting dog. Is there a law like there is here that if you have the dog for more than 3 days without contact from the owner that you can rehome it? I know here we have something like that, i would say the owner just dropped him off and couldnt take care of him anymore, in any court im sure the dog would be rehomed and the man would be cvharged with neglect

Here's a couple of pics:
This breed is kind of rare in the states, it could just be coincidence they look so alike.

I definitely don't think he's a pit or staffy. The pics don't show how big this boy is. He is going to be huge. Dogue de Argentina...interesting..

My boss has had dogs left in the past. He's just taken them to the humane society and explained that they were left.

I agree, very nice.
They often crop the ears, luckily I happened to find a photo with them natural.
Another Mastiff breed.

If they were Dogue de Argentina... I don't think his friend would give him one. This is gonna be a BYB.

Oh I'm sure of that. This guy doesn't seem reliable at all, and he's one of those shady types who seems like he's good at covering things up. He's really hard to figure out. THere are a lot of things wrong with this whole situation and I feel so badly that this pup is going to miss out on so much important puppy learning right now.

That's what I keep saying about our rottie pups, they're about 4 months now, if not a bit older, and they mouthe really bad. The sooner you can get this pup up for adoption the better! Don't fancy taking him home?? I don't know if I could resist them eyes... :D

I can't have a dog at my apartment, :( so I can't take him. I don't know of anyone looking for a puppy right now, so I don't really have anyone to recommend, either.

Also Dogo Argentino, or Argentine Dogo, or just plain "Dogo".
I'm going with BYB Pit.

My guess is Ambull. American bull dog pit bull mix they are all the rage with the BYBs around here. He is so good looking! his eyes are wonderful.

I can garauntee this is not a pit. This dog is going to be huge. I mean 120-150 dog. Pits, even males do not get that big.

While it does seem stange that a dog like the dogo would end up in some BYBers yard, strangers things have happened. A mix of course is possible. Perhaps Dane.
Who knows.......but when I saw those photos...........I immediately thought Dogo.

what is BYB???
forget it as soon as i typed it i figured it out....Back-yard breeder???

BYB=Back Yard Breeder
He lookes like an American Bulldog cross or a boxer mix. BUT.....know that I think about it, I knew a man who was into a type of training that the police dogs get. He had a Pit and Neopolitan Mastiff cross that was huge. Zues. He was so cool. He loved kids and loved to slobber on them.

Ambulls and American bull dogs can both be very large. I really can't say I see Dogo but then again we are all just guessing:)

There is no law in Ontario yet in regards to the Dogo. Right now the only province wide ban is on Pits, and if your dog is under the grandfather claus age then its good bye.
There are certain cities in Ontario that have more severe breed bans, like Kitchener-no Pits, Rotts, Dobes and I think they are working on getting rid of the GSD's.

Might as well just ban all dogs and have done with it!

 Oh my God!!!!! That's just wrong!! If someone tried to take my shepherd away from me, I don't know what I'd do! I'd pack up and move. Who are these idiot people who make decisions like this? It's not the breeds that need banning, it's ignorant owners. ANY breed can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

I thought I'd update for those interested....
Yesterday was the first time I've worked at the kennel since 11/16! I took off for the 9 day deer hunting season and Thanksgiving so it's been a while.
Anyway, Brutus is still there! Poor guy. He's about tripled in size since I took those pictures. My boss was out of town all weekend, but I'm going to give him a call tonight to see what the story is. I'll post what I find out.

My friend has an American Bulldog/ Pit mix that he got from a raid on a fighting compound (he's a police officer). His dog Bruiser looks very similar to Brutus. I would say a mix of that sort would be your best bet and he probably will get BIG. Bruiser is about 130 pounds and just massively...massive lol. Keep us posted on what happens with him!

I would tend to think not. I just posted about him on a Wisconsin forums I visit and I have someone interested! So, if he really is dumped, he already has a chance at a good home. This woman rescues bearded dragons and has a 2 yr old choc. lab. So.....this could be good!

Well it's been 3 weeks, still no money I'm guessing, if I were in charge I'd consider that abandonment. Does the man come and see him? Or even keep calling with excuses? Or is it just heard nothing since then?
I really hope he can be rehomed, and that home sounds like a good 'un!

If one of the mods could change my title to "Brutus's Story" that would be sweet. I don't need help with his breed ID anymore, he is supposedly full-blood American Bulldog.
Anyway, he has been officially abandoned. I talked with my boss tonight. His ex-wife has a rottweiler that is going to pass soon, so she might take him. One of the other employees at the kennel is going to take him over Christmas and see how he does with their other lab. So those are 2 very good home options.
The woman who resuces the dragons is still interested as well. So he's got 3 potential homes lined up, hopefully within the next couple of weeks he'll make a permanent residence. :) So yay for happy endings.
