My Cat Will Not Eat

Please help. My Cat stopped eating days ago and as been to the vet twice. His kidneys are not good but no worse than before. Diabeties was negative and thairoid was negative. Some gas in system showed up in x-ray. Mouth seemed clear of any problems. Vet gave me "Prelone" for him. He seems to want to eat but when he tastes it he acts if the food is hot and walks away. He seems to be having trouble swallowing but again x-ray looked clear. Any ideas?? He is 18 years old but was in great shape until last week.

What type of food are you giving him, hard or soft? Did he have his teeth examined? He may have some dental issues.

Ask your vet about prescription Hills A/D - it's for seriously ill/anorexic cats and is very palatable. If he eats that, maybe you can get him back on his regular diet.

Also, I've used baby food to coax a cat to start eating again. You can try warming it up in the microwave for 10 seconds - it makes it more appetizing.

When mine stopped eating , it had a urinary tract infection. Had that treated and she was ok again. Yet another cat 18 years old started not eating when a tumor developed in the tummy area.

Also what have you been feeding her is indeed a good question. Teeth don't do well in anything that is old,me included :) So I would ask to have them examined also.
