my 8 yr old yellow lab has become uneasy and jumps up suddenly and scratches himself...behavior is over the last 7 days...no signs of swelling when i rub his body, no bald patches, no red skin or irritated areas..
i am trying to see if there are any home remedies for this condition. in a perfect world i go the VET but money is very tight and trying to see if this can be corrected simply at home...any ideas? thoughts?
he does not appear to be in pain, no tenderness just gets "antsy" some licking but not anymore than I have ever seen him to...he is neutered and otherwise healthy although we did have ear issue taken care of 2 months ago...does not seem to be ear related this time

please help
thnx mike

It definitely sounds like a flea issue. Your vet may sell Capstar. It's a small pill that you give to him and it'll kill every flea on him for 24 hours. They're fairly cheap pills, and most vets don't require an exam before prescribing. Once you've given the Capstar pill, then put on a topical flea prevention like Frontline or Advantix or Advantage. However, if your dog has a history of seizures or neurological issues, don't get Advantix.

I think they sell Capstar without a prescription at 1800petmeds.com and if i remember correctly, you can even get it at PETCO now.. You will also want to treat any other animals in your house AND your carpets and bedding should be washed.. but you can definitely treat for fleas at home.. the next thing to do would be like TIFFFERS said and get him on something like Frontline
