My Cocker Spaniel Lucy is only 6 months old. Yesterday morning she started throwing up. She didnt want to eat but she drank water normally. Today she doesnt want to eat or drink, and she has really bad diarrhea. I think she must have gotten into something in the yard, because she is always trying to eat stuff. I already have an appointment for her on Thursday. They told me to give it a day or two. Is there anything I can do in the meantime???

Well my advice is to call the vet again and explain that things are getting worse and not better. Yesterday you dog was at least drinking which means it was staying hydrated while still sick. However, now it is no longer even drinking and is emptying from both ends - not good! Sometimes you need to let the vet's staff know it may be an emergency. If one vet cannot fit you in - call another.

Hi there.

I have to tell you that this sounds soooo familiar. We have an 11 year old beagle who would eat anything that he can get his hands on. On one occasion we took him to the beach (along with our lab) and he managed to find, dig up, and EAT a rotten fish. Needless to say he was going from both ends for a few days. He wasn't interested in eating either but he did occasionally take a drink of water. It's important that your puppy is hydrated. I would definately try to see a vet asap if your pup isn't drinking any fluids. Good luck- I'm sure everything will be OK. :)

...is she fully vaccinated? It certainly sounds like it could be Parvo. Or, if she eats all sorts of random things...perhaps HGE (Hemorrhagic Gastric Enteritis). Either one of those needs immediate attention. Please call your vet back and ask to be seen sooner...

Get her some Pedialyte and try to keep her hydrated. If she is losing too much water in her stool and vomit, she can become dangerously dehydrated very quickly.

How is your puppy doing?? I'm so concerned for her. My parent's puppy was recently hospitalized for Parvo. It was pretty bad and they weren't sure he would pull through, but Thank God, he did. Please keep us updated.
