I got my flying squirrel on April 2003, at that time I didn't knew anything about flying squirrels. I brought him home 'cause he seemed so sad and in such a bad condition (he is blind from the left eye, due to a fight with another squirrel in the petstore). And only when I arrived home I started searching on the internet about them. At that time there was not much info.

I bought a not very big cage but quite expensive one.

This is a pic of the cage in the first days:

Actually it is a bit different. What I want is a bit of help with some ideas so that I can make the cage a better place for my flying squirrel. Considering that I can't buy him a new one now.

Thanks :)

Hello and welcome to this site! Your little squirrel is SO cute! I don't know much about keeping flying squirrels, but I think eventually you might want to get a bigger cage, one maybe like this: http://www.featherfarm.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=40 That way there will be more room for him to romp and play around and be as active as he wants! I also think maybe you should add some branches that are a little thicker. Most of the ones in the cage now seem the same thickness and a variety of branches would be nice. You can also go to a petstore and head over to the parrot section and find rop perches, sand perches, cholla perches, ladders, toys, felt huts, etc., all things he would enjoy probably. In the wild squirrels stay very active, so in order to stay healthy and happy in captivity he needs to have plenty to do to keep him busy.

He's cage is not that small and actually I can't buy another one :(
I am going to buy some wood shelves and I'll get some new and thicker branches. Yesterday I made a hammock and a bonding pouch :)

Thanks for the advice!
