Hey,
I had a question maybe someone may be able to answer for me. I have a 3 year old sheltie, Rottie, German Shepard mix. She is about 40 lbs. She's been having problems with her back right leg. Sometimes to me it seems swollen. She lips on it from time to time. Especially has a hard time with it when she gets up from lying down. I thought Alrthritis but she is such a young dog. If I minipulate it she doesn't cry. It doesn't seem like it is bringing her any pain when moved around but yet she limps? I'm just so comfused. I have tried to wait to see if it was a pulled muscle but it's been about a month, maybe a month and a half and I still catch her limping on it. Also sometimes when she stands I notice that the bad leg sticks out further the the left. Like her paws don't line up when she stands. I don't know what to do for her. The only reason I have not taken her to the vet is because sometimes I don't see her limp and other days I do. It is swelled in like the thigh area above the knee sometimes. What should I do for her? Does anyone know what it may be? I'm just really confused is all. I'm not sure what it could be
[B]Also my dog keeps bitting her back end area. I've checked for flees and seen none. She does have dry skin but as soon as I see she has dandruff I bathe her. Well now she's biting and it's becomeing red and irritated and sometimes bleeds. Then it gets infected and I clean it....I'll tell you what if it's not the kids it's the dog!! lol. But what can I do for her to relieve that irritation? Does anyone have a good remedy or a good treatment? Thank you so much for taking time to read this!!:o

Hi and welcome to Petlovers - I think you need to take her to the vet as soon as possible. He legs aren't lining up - sounds like she has a joint out of socket, or a ligament or tendon problem that could have happened during play. I would guess that she is biting at it because it hurts. I would also guess that she has swelling there because there is an injury. Please take her to the vet. She can still have the injury even though it doesn't hurt her every day.

Please keep us updated!

First and foremost, being a rottie mix you really REALLY need to be worried with Bone Cancer. There is no age limit for Cancer, we all know that. Especially since the swelling is sporadic. You really need to get her into a vet for xrays ASAP. It may very well save her life.

The biting at the back end could also be an anal gland problem. Or that she is having problems with her hips, and not the 'legs'. Another problem that needs to be seen by a vet, because if there's infection...she needs antibiotics to help fight it off.

Please get your pup to a vet, she needs help.
