Okay...I toyed with the settings of my camera, have been getting a few good pictures of everything but my darn fish. I took these...SUPER dark, and then went into Photoshop and had to do some adjusting just so I could see them! Something isn't working...it's probably me...?
Anywho....here's my phishies, taken this morning...

Jack's eye...you can see which eye Catillac tried to pull him out of the tank by about a year ago. It's never gone down any, but I think he has re injured it as the actual iris portion is hemorrhaging.

Ed is a real ham, he kept jumping in everyone's picture...I thought it was cute. (You can see him in Elizabeth's picture, too.)

Tiffers, I do know that photoshop can make these photos look better than you have them. They are good photos, but the white balance and shadows need to be tweaked. I'm not sure what version you have, but even auto levels, or shadow/highlights, will help tremendously.
You have some cool looking goldfish.

i don't know what camera you have or what setting you tried to use but if you can slow down the shutter speed that is one way to get brighter pictures...of course this means they can be blurry if you're holding the camera...but you can place the camera on a table in order to eliminate shaking.

I have Photoshop CS, Becky. And, JMar, I've no idea how to change shutter speed on my camera.

what camera do you have??
and also i forgot you were taking pics of fish so umm that'll be hard cuz they ummm move lol. but maybe i can figure something out. you'll need plenty of light in the room for it to work better.

ok so i'm going to link you to this website: http://www.photonhead.com/beginners/shutterandaperture.php
....they explain shutter speeds and apertures very simply and show you what the numbers look like. If you read this over it should help a little and with practice you won't have to think twice about what effect changing the numbers will have on your picture. later on we can go into more detail about what difference it makes to have a wider aperture versus a smaller one.
but for now. just read that really quickly so you can see what the numbers look like...then on your camera set it to "M" (manual). then see if you see the numbers show up somewhere that you can change and try to change the right one. You want to open up your aperture all the way (the smallest aperture number) this will allow more light to come in at once. and then play with the shutter speed until you get a bright enough picture.
if none of this works or if its too complicated....try setting your camera to the "night mode" i noticed your camera has a night mode.
PS: if you're really into learning about photography I can PM you more extensive websites that are more detailed and such.

Here is what a quick photoshop edit did. It was very simple, I used AUTO LEVELS, and BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST.
This was done in a second, so if you play with the controls, I'm sure you can get it much better.
