I have two questions: (1) Has anyone ever used Benedryl or Benedryl-D to treat a dog for alergies? I am fostering a beagle who is about two years old. She seems to have some alergies and I don't know if they are from my house or just the "norm" for her. Anyway, she started sneezing around 3:00 a.m. this morning. So around 7:30 I remembered a friend saying that she gave her beagle Benedryl for alergies, so I looked on-line at Wiekepedia and it said it was fine and the proper dosing was 1mg per pound of weight. To be cautious I only gave her 1/2 of the 25mg. caplet. I went to read further in the article and at the end it said to only give "plain" Benedryl (I gave her Benedryl-D) otherwise it could be dangerous. So I contacted a local 24-hour emergency vet and they said that it should be ok. Now I am trying to see if anyone else has had this happen. Question (2) While walking her last night she decided to eat a baby toad frog. Is this ok or is it one of those things that hurt her. She has showed no signs of being sick....just wondering.

As for the frog, depends on what kind it is. Some are highly poisonous. Check online for symptoms for poisonous frogs.

I also have used benedryl for itching and irritated skin, but I use it with my parrots.

Thanks for the reply. She seems ok thus far, I just got nervous about giving the wrong kind of Benedryl.:)

Yes, you can use the children's liquid benedryl. I use it all the time with my two lhasa-tzus that are plagued with itchy skin. I even buy the generic brand at the drug store that is cheaper. You just give them the toddler dosae that is based on weight, same dosage per weight of your dog.
