View Full Version : My Sasha is starving herself to death. No food, no water.

I am concerned about my 5-year old Sasha, she is a mix Rottweiler. About a week ago I noticed she had not touched her food and after following her all day I noticed she did not drink any water either. I tried forcing food and water but she just wont take any.
I took her to her vet and after paying a fortune in this time of crisis, they do not come with an diagnostic. There is no apparent reason for her to just stop eating, I tried treats, even human food, her favorite ice cream, and nothing. She has lost 13 lbs. and is dehydrated, the vet put her on an IV to give her some fluids and gave her a shot of antibiotics and she seemed better but still refuses to eat or drink.
I've been with her following her around and I noticed that she is peeing and pooping or at least trying every hour or hour and a half but all that comes out of her is some really nasty black excrement, she has not eat in over 7 days.
Do you have any idea what is causing this? Is this going away? What kind of treatment or medicine does she need?
Please help me, give me an idea, I have no more money to pay the vet and not give me an answer. The vet actually said that if she does not eat I will have to sacrifice her, and I DO NOT WANT TO DO THAT!!! Not even entertain the idea, it makes me sick to think of it.
Thanks.

Ask your vet if they tested for Addison's disease. My Sadie was about 2 1/2 when she stopped eating or drinking. She got very weak after about a week of this. I almost lost her. The vet had me bring her in and they kept her for about 3 days on IV fluids while they did some tests. She was diagnosed almost 5 years ago and with regular medication and blood tests, she has been just fine.

Since Addison's isn't a very common disease, it is one of the last things they look for.

I'm sure there could be a lot of other diagnoses for Sasha's problems, but IMO I'd talk to the vet about Addisons.

Sasha and you are in my thoughts and prayers!

If her stools are black - and I mean black like tar - she could have a GI bleed. (GI is gastro-intestinal, or digestive tract). This would make her sick as well.

Please keep us updated on her condition. I will also keep her in my prayers.

Welcome to petlovers, though I am sorry it's Sasha's illness that has brought you here.

I recommend you take Sasha to another vet. Repeated visits to a vet with no solutions means it's time to get another opinion.
