i have on fantail tetra left (female). i had 3 (2 other males who have also died). the only symptoms i have noticed was that the last tetra was hanging close to the surface of the water, with her tail dangling down more than usual.

i came home about an hour ago to find her stuck to the filter tube. her back appears to now be broke. her gills are inflamed and is beathing heavy and rapid; along with takeing big gulps of breath.

she is now hanging just off the bottom of the tank (back still broke), she will not take food even when cohersed.

any help or suggestions as to the reason of her condition, and if there is anything that i can do to save her would be appreciated greatly.

I have been extremely bad at keeping fish alive in my aquarium practice, so I cannot help you with this problem.
I would, however, suggest you ask this question at petfish.net, which is a very active fish-keeping community that will probably be very quick at answering your questions.

when a fish is terminally ill then i would put it to sleep.

sounds cruel but sometimes thing happen. the best was is to put fish in a plastic bag and place it in the freezer. it should be over soon.
