I'm looking for Philadelphia animal rescues. Someone contacted me for help finding a temporary home for a friend's dog. The owner has to go into some form of treatment for a few months, but does not want to lose his dog. He cannot afford to have the dog boarded for such a long time and apparently he doesn't know anyone who is willing to keep the dog that long either. I could only find 2 rescues in the Philly area that took dogs and were not breed specific, but I have a feeling I'll have to look around for a long time before I find a place that'll be willing to help. Any suggestions or contacts you could give me?

I am not familiar with your area, but have you tried Morris Animal Refuge, PAWS or the Pennsylvania SPCA? I think you need an organization with a good foster program. Your friend may want to offer a donation to the organization to cover costs. It may give them incentive to help as most rescue groups are funding strictly from public support.
Most rescue groups I know are not set up for short term care. Your friend may have to relinquish his dog to them and hope that it will still be available when he returns.
We are seeing the same problem in my area with military service personnel.
Good luck.
