I have a boy kitty, who has a sore on the back of his neck. When it begins to heal...he scratches it off! How can I stop him from scratching...or what can I put on it to heal?? A neighbor gave me something called "bitter safe mist", but it says to avoid contact with broken skin! I've combed him for fleas, but don't find any! Any advice??

I would suggest calling your vet. He may have a slight allergy to something. Your vet may be able to suggest/give you something that will help it heal and take the itch out of it.

Hmm... as long as it doesn't look infected, put some vasaline (spelling?) on it or neosporine, this will keep the scab from itching, we all know how scabs itch, and they are both safe to use on kitty. Good luck.

Is it possible he got into a fight with another cat?. Like Sue said.. It could be a wound that is healing and he keeps scratching it because its healing and itches. Vaseline and Neosporin is great advice... I'd definately take him to the vet if it doesn't get better soon. Good luck.

Cheryl Babba has had a proplem with raw areas on his skin to.I have had him to two vets and so far it has healed in one place and got raw in other. He was scratching and licking it until it bled.I have already given five types of medication to him and been to two vets but they don't seam to know what it is.He also had a fungus test twice that was negative.I made him a vest that covers the raw area and it seam to have helped a lot.He can't get to it now.
I'm going to take him to another vet Monday.I would like to know whats causing it.When i fnd out i will let you know.It may help you out.

Oh boy, if they could only understand. I didn't think about this till now, is it in a place you could try wrapping an ace bandage around him along with the neosporin. Just keep an eye out for infection, it's been a week now.

The sore is on his neck....just to the right if you're standing over him! I used the Frontline right between his shoulderblades, so that wasn't a problem!
I'm afraid to tie anything around his neck...in case he chokes himself or something like that!!!

Oh no I wouldn't do that either, I though it may have been a little further down.

I had a kitty that would get sores like the ones you're describing. Someone (not sure if it was my vet or not - this was many years ago) called them "hot spots". I put triple antibiotic ointment on them and that cleared them up right away. The Neosporin should work. good luck!
