I am thinking either English Toy Spaniel or Brussels Griffon. Female. I have 2 of each I am interested in and am trying to decide which breed and which dog.

First the English Toy Spaniels.

This black and tan female is 3.5 months old. The breeder says if it doesn't work out for any reason, she would always take her back although she wants her to have her forever home. She says that she has never had a female ETS that was pushy. Only one male in her 16 years of breeding. The parents are 12 and 13 lbs:

This black and tan female is 7 months old although this picture is more like at 3 months and I am suppose to be getting a more recent picture. Her mom is 9 lbs and Dad is 14 lbs. I think her coloring on her face is so pretty.

Now for the Brussels Griffon:

This black female has some brown hairs, so she will probably be black but may be dark belge. She is 4 weeks old. The only one of the litter. The breeder says it is too young for her to tell her temperament but that at more like 6 or 7 weeks she might be able to tell. And that when she weans her at 7-8 weeks, she will also be with 2 other female puppies from another litter. That if her temperament as she gets older isn't what I need for Gigi and one of the other two females in the other litter are, then I could have one of them instead. The other litter has a black and has a red (which I don't want a red). She only ships at 12 weeks.

This black and tan female is 9 weeks old and is weaned and litter box trained. The black and tan coloring is like the coloring on a doberman (just with longer hair on the Brussels Griffon). Her parents are Dad (4#) and Mom (9#) so she should be small. Her personality is middle of the road.

Me too! Although I like the 3rd ETS and the 2nd griffon....

Good luck with that difficult choice!

Maybe I'll have to draw straws. :D

I have pros for buying each one that is related to its age, what the breeder has told me, what I think about the breeder, etc. And then there is which are the cutest which don't necessarily go with the biggest pro list. And then there is the which breed do I think will do best with Gigi, but that is different than which breed will be smaller than her and look cuter with her.

Right now I really really like the black and tan brussels griffon. But I like the breeders for the black brussels griffon better as well as for the first english toy spaniel. i trust them more. and then the other english toy spaniel i like the coloring better than the first ETS. and i like that it is older and past some of the puppy stuff.

I love the English Toy Spaniel! They are in some way related to the Cavalier right?

Yes. The cavaliers were developed in the 1920s. The English Toy Spaniel are older. they were bred with short nosed oriental dogs in the 1800s. Probably Japanese Chin. But the ETS were around before that in the mid-1500s.

I am voting for the little one in the blue bed. She is adorable! So your other thread was a bust eh? ROFLMAO

She is isn't she. And i like that she will likely be smaller than Gigi. I think that will bode well for any dominance issues. And if she is small, that makes it easier when I take the two dogs. They can share an oversize car seat, won't need so much food, etc.

I think her size and coloring would look well with Gigi. She is suppose to be a sturdy breed so she should be able to take long walks and do dog agility with us at some point (even if she isn't good).

Yes. Thanks to all of you enablers on this board . . . and in my life. I kept saying to one of my friends, I would talk in Gigi's voice and say "I don't want a baby sister." and my friend would say "yes, I do", speaking for gigi. :p

Well don't feel so bad. I am taking on of the vizsla puppies home with me this weekend so she can hang out with her future sister, Emmah! How's that for enabling? I bet I won't come home with her :)

Don't know much about the temperament on either breed, but I have been looking at griffons for awhile now. I was wanting to get one to start showing. I think they are sooooo cute! I agree with the little one on the blue bed, what a sweet face.

Well, if you take one or two, that will make my decision easier. ;-)

Ok, so I am not sure how I decided. But somehow in the course of the day I came down on the side of the black and tan brussels griffon (the one on the blue pillow).

I don't know exactly when she will be coming to her new home. I need to pay for her yet and then the breeder will have to arrange shipping.

One kinda cool thing is that she is litter trained. So at least in the beginning that will make things easier for me. Since she can't go to doggy day care at first (too young, needs shots and to be house broken). And three days a week I work away from home. It is possible that I may be able to work from home a little more at first but I am not sure if I should. it may be better for her to get use to the routine from the beginning. Like Gigi had to.

Congrats! Now the next step is naming...do you have any picked out already?

I am such a geek. I do have a name picked out. Right now I am leaning towards "Anisette". It is actually a licorice flavored liqueur. Which combines my love of dogs and my love of cocktails. :D

I am open to others. But, it must be French. and preferably not a proper name.
So any of you French speakers . . . I am open to suggestions.

She's a cutie...and Anisette can be shortened to Ani...sounds cute with Gigi...;)

My friend has suggested Antoinette. So for short it could be Tony or Antoine.
Do you like that better than Anisette?

The french word for cocktail is "Frappe". What do you think about that. :D

My mother always said she chose names for her children after standing on the back porch and yelling them a few times. Can you see yourself yelling "FRAPPE!" from your porch? LOL

I like Anisette better, it's very original, and classy, and she looks to be a classy kind of girl!

Can you PM me the name of the breeder, please? Like I said I've been thinking of getting a griff for awhile now.

I did PM you with a ton of information. I have more if you want to know more.

Oh, and I really wanted to call her "Martini". which is the same in french and in english. What do you think of Martini? I wasn't sure it had that slightly exotic flavor that I wanted.

It looks like Anisette will be her name. My friends have already started calling her that. And last night I ordered a a dog ID tag that is a pink bone with little crystals on it and had that name and my phone # put on it. :D And today I took a friend to 3 Dog Bakery to buy her new puppy a fancy collar. While I was there I picked up a cute tiny pink collar for the puppy.

Tomorrow I go to a friend's house to take her and her giant schnauzer puppy to the big dog park (since she wants moral support they first time they go). And afterwards we will go and shop for the few items I will need for the new puppy.

Then I will spend the rest of the week resting and catching up on sleep. Oh and stocking up on coffee for my sleep deprived nights that will soon be coming. ;)
