Hunter is doing better today after just 3 doses of antibiotic, no more wet sneezing, eyes and nostrils clean and dry, but still some snuffling noises. Maybe we caught it in time?
He has his own room, and seems OK with it. When all the cats came to sniff him before I got him in there he went a little wild, even bit me, but he's all cuddles when I've gone in to see him today.
I'm not thinking he'll be content to live in solitary confinement the whole two weeks, will it be safe to let him into the rest of the house once all symptoms have been gone a day or two? Not all the others have all their shots yet, and the two baby's and the new Mama havn't had any.

They say that after 24 hours of antibiotics, you're no longer contagious...but with an entire housefull of kitties...I would not test my luck. However, I've had a litter of kittens with full blown URI's and I let them mingle with Catillac and roam around the house, and I've had no catastrophe's yet...knock on wood.

I've been following Hunter troubles. glad he is feeling better. How about leaving him isolated and see how long he'll tolerate it? If he doens't start fussing for a few more days, that's just extra insurance that he's not contagious.

he was around the mama and kittens before he got treatment, right? so maybe they're immune systems were stimulated by the slight exposure enough to ward off anything.

He's already fussing, but what's one more meow in a house like mine? I wouldn't even consider letting him have free run of the house as long as he has any symptoms left. There are just too many cats here.
He really wasn't around the Mama and kittens much, he can be aggressive with other cats when he's in the mood to, and always loathes kittens, so they run when they see him coming.
I was more concerned with him eating out of the same dishs and using the same litterbox and scrathing pads then any cat to cat contact. Unlwss Archie decided to take advantage of Hunter being under the weather to see if maybe he's the dominant Tom now. Doesn't seem to matter what species they are, or how young they're nuetered, males all want to be the boss.

Nana, just curious...how many kitties do you have right now...and what are their names?

There are 13 total who I seem to be responsible for, 2 are strays who stay outdoors, and another 2 my daughter says she is taking when she moves from her sisters house. The new kitten may have a home when he's old enough, and the Mama may have one after I spay her. The rest will probably get old with me.

Hunter S Tomcat - my original cat
Archie and Mehitable - the ferals from work
Two Stars - the grocery store parking lot baby
Angel, Witch, and Calamity Jane - abandoned at a trailer park
Hairy Catter - declawed giant, just wandered up
Cuddlebug and kitten - brought here pregnant after child took her from boys
Havana - Jade smuggled her here, found wild at apt. complex
Tex and Rabbit- survivors of wild litter that found their way to the food

Wow, you have that flashing welcome light that's only visable to homeless animals flashing outside your house, don't you? :p

I certainly seem to. All these guys have shown up in only 32 months. Not to mention the 3 cats and lab mix that I have been able to place in homes and poor old Tiger. And the ones who come and eat that don't get friendly. And the ferals at the gas station.
Today was grocery day. If nothing else would ever get me commited, my grocery reciepts would. An 18 lb. bag of Indoor cat food. Another of outdoor formula. A 7 lb. bag of kitten formula, 12 cans of wet food, 3 bags of litter, and 2 scratching pads to replace worn out ones. Oh yeah, a teeny litterbox for my bedroom closet so that Cuddlebug can start showing the little guy what to do. A woman in the cat food aisle asked me if I ran a rescue! Yup, just a non official, un funded one. Oops, don't forget a twelve pack of Revolution every month!
It has it's moments though, I saw some of the remaining cats at the trailer park Angel and her brood came from. It's heartbreaking to see the shape they're in, but comparing them to the ones I have shows me what a difference I've made in their lives.
And Witch is coming to me at least daily to get her back scratched. I can still only touch her on her terms, but what an improvement from the cat who went insane with terror at the sight of a human. At this rate she may be ready to adopt out in a year or two! Sometimes I wonder what happened to her to make her so scared, but then I'll read about some act of cruelty and be glad I don't know.:(

That's okay, I think I make up a good chunk of the local Petsmart's income. I'm in there every weekend, sometimes twice buying something for the kittens or food for my guys. Last Saturday we bought a 32 can pack of Friskies wet food, am 18lb bag of Purina Cat Chow and and 30lb bag of Blue Buffalo puppy food then went back that evening and bought hydrocordisone spray for Kaylee's hotspots and a front lead harness for her. This weekend I know I"ll be buying a couple of bags of cat litter and who knows what else. Thankfully we've had plenty of kitten food donation lately so I've not had to buy any for a few months now.

I know what you mean about Witch, I just had one adopted in May that was so terrified of people she lived in my linen closet for several weeks. It took months for her to accept my husband. She came to us from the local emergency clinic, have no idea what happened to her beyond that though.

Wow! And I can't seem to keep even one healthy at a time.

Good job nanmouse! I hope Hunter is completely healed and bugging you for lots of food real soon.

Don't think that way, Pugz, if these weren't some awfully tough survivor type cats they'd have never made it as far as me in the first place. I know that there were originally more of the batch that Tiger and Tex came from, they disappeared over time.:( I'm sure that Arch and Mitty came from a litter larger than 2, and who knows what happened to Two Stars mother and littermates to leave him alone and starved in a parking lot.
And Lord knows, if one of mine came down with something catastrophic like Purrkins..... I don't even want to think about it. No credit, small income, and lots of cats in a small house - it would be ugly.
