Hello I have had my aquarium for about a month now. I have live plants and have already found a pond snail. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this is. I found it crawling around the floor of the tank.

That looks like a flatworm called planaria. You'll probably notice them in your water changes too. They tend to hang out in the gravel.

It looks like a babelfish to me...

No I'm just kidding... read too much Douglas Adams lately.

that is WAY to big to be planaria. Planaria are super small and you would need a GOOD camera to get a picture of them. They are about the diameter of a strand of thread and only 1/2" long or LESS.. That thing is BIG.. can you get a clearer picture> It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to tell what it is without seeing it's face.

I dont think it's a leech though.. but a better picture is required.

oh yea.. ANYTIME you buy plants from a petco or large scale pet store, you are GURANTEED to end up with an infestation of snails. I can bet that by the end of the month, you have 20 snails, and the end of the year you can have THOUSANDS. They multiply like CRAZY!
