When digging in a pile of compost, a solitary young mouse (eyes still closed) was found. We thought to leave it right there, but we are moving the pile, so we decided to bring the mouse inside. It has gray hair (so we assume it is not newborn), but its eyes are still closed.

We are wondering what to give it for food and drink. We have only had the mouse for an hour. Any advice you might have would be most appreciated!!!!

Hi and welcome! Did you search carefully for the nest? Otherwise the best thing to do would be to find a wildlife rehabilitator in the area to take it to asap. When I had pet mice, there was a runt in the litter that wasn't getting enough to eat, so I took the adult mouse food and blended it up real well and added a little water which I would feed it. I'm not saying that is good or the best thing to do of course, only that the little mouse needs something in its stomach and any food is better than nothing. Hopefully though you are able to find someone experienced in this to take it to.
