I was just wondering for how loud the Pionus is. Could you give give a me a comparison to another species. I can't have loud birds while I live with my parent. Loud birds don't bother me, but they bother them. I guess I won't be getting a Catalina Macaw and Moluccan Cockatoo anytime soon.

My favorite subject!!!!
Pionus Parrots are very quiet birds. They will interact with you when YOU want them to. They are very talkative at times but it is a low "voice". Pionus' are not destructive chewers. They like to play with their toys, rawhide, wood, but don't destroy things like some other birds might.
I can't compare them to any other bird, they are unique. My cockatiel and budgies are louder than my Pionus.

I hope this helps.
P.S. I think they are the perfect sized parrot. They are larger than a conure but a little smaller than an Amazon. They are stocky birds and not frail. Their good nature makes them non-intimidating.

Hi. I have a Blue-Headed Pionus and I think they are really "great" birds. Rio is very quiet ... not silent (as in not making any noise) because she certainly can get "vocal" at times. But when she does, it is by no means louder than my cockatiels' calls. I had to give up my cockatiel because I live in a condo and my neighbors complained about the noise. Rio is certainly "quieter" than my cockatiel. If you do a search on "quiet parrots", you'll see that Pionus is among the list. They are also recommended for "apartments" becuase they have a very low noise level.
Their overall activity is great ... not hyper at all. Rio loves to play with her toys in her cage or on her playstand, and can happily entertain herself. They are not very demanding of their humans, as far as how much one-on-one attention you give them. (Of course, the more attention you give them the better but they will do fine with minimal attention).
Pionus are very calm and easy going birds. They do not "spook" easily and take most things in stride. If Rio doesn't like something, she will just turn her back to it ... never tried to bite or peck anyone.
Overall, I am very happy with the Pionus. :D

I have a white capped pionus name Sophie. Sophie is more demanding than my budgie. She is quieter than Pumpkin the budgie. However if she wants to got to bed she will squawk, talk, and mumble until she is covered. If you touch ehr feet she will let out a loud squawk but other wise she is very quiet.
Sophie is not extremly active but can be active. She climbs the stairs everyday to go up to my room. She does occasionally do a crazy flap until she is tired.
They are wonderful birds and I hope if they are right for you you decide to get one. They are excellent.
