View Full Version : My cat swallowed cactus spines!

Today I let my three cats out on the patio with me for a few minutes. Wouldn't you know that the second my back was turned, my overly curious adolescent kitty stuck his nose in my potted prickly pear cactus. He got a nose full of tiny spines! I managed to pull some of them out but he did lick and swallow a few. These aren't big thorns, they are like very tiny splinters. He seems fine but should I call a vet or will he be ok? I've gotten these stuck in my fingers before and they hurt. What should I do? I feel like I'm constantly calling the vet with questions (I have three cats and two house-rabbits) and I think she's starting to think I'm crazy and I need to get a life! Should I just watch him a see what happens? Thank goodness I live just down the street from a Pet Emergency. I think I might need it someday with this crazy kitty.

I would call. If anything, it will put your mind at ease. Keep us posted!

I didn't call because he seems fine, and I have an appointment at the vet's today for my rabbits. I'll tell her what happened and make sure its ok.

Glad to hear he's doing well! Let us know what your vet says.
