I have a cat whos brother has been beating him up, and he has a breathing problem. My parents think that taking an outdoor cat to the vet is a waste. I don't want to take him to the shelter. Does anyone live in MI near lapeer? Help :(

You can't keep your cat anymore? It's never a waste to take any cat to a vet. If you must adopt out your kitty, make sure he goes to a good home.

I'm sorry I can't help you but please plead with your parents to help this sick kitty. Just because he's an outside cat doesn't stop him from suffering. If he's having trouble breathing, it would be better to take him to the shelter where he has a chance of getting treatment and finding a home than to just leave him to suffer and probably die an awful death.

I agree. A humans need to not give up their pet because they might miss them is usually never in the best interest of the pet. It would be better that your cat get veterinary care in someone else's shelter (no kill if possible) than die a slow and agonizing death from pneumonia or other respiratory disease. I wish i could help, but if you really want to help this cat, either plead with your parents and offer to pay them back for the vet bills, or hand overthe cat to someone who can help

Having developed asthma late in life I can't think of anything scarier than not being able to breathe. I have an inhaler and know what is happening and still have to fight panic every time. Can you imagine the terror that poor cat experiences when he can't breathe? If your parents will not get him medical help a shelter would be best for him, most have agreements with vets so that animals who can be helped are.

I don't blame you for being mad at all! I'm mad with you! You are trying to take care of this cat and she doesn't want to help? Can't you explain to her that NOT taking care of the cat is cruel AND it's a punishable offense! Hasn't she ever seen animal cops??? Or maybe that's too brash... but it's true.

you could try calling vets in your area to find one who offers payment plans. whenever my mom doesnt take her cats to the vet i tell her "you would want someone to take you to the doctor if you were sick. or you could purchase pet health insurance. its cheaper to treat health problems when they start rather than waiting fot them to get worse. good luck:)
