Hi all, new here! I have 3 cats we rescued at 4 weeks of age that were born under our house 67 days after my 19 year old, first furborn Jaz passed on. Anyway my Alexa has a luxating patella, she is 15 months old. The vet said right now the fix is worse then the problem as long as she can pop it back in, and she can. Is there anything like a brace made for a cat? She has lost weight, she was never fat just a very muscular husky cat, so I think that is natures response to easing the burden on her leg. She limps, but still runs occasionally, plays and tumbles about with her sister and brother, so we don't want her to have surgery until she is less active. I can't imagine having to restrain her in their carrier; our furbabies don't understand what is good for them. I just don't see why there would not be a brace; I see athletics who have that problem wearing a brace while playing. Candace Parker of the WNBA Sparks wears one on her shoulder because she has a problem with her shoulder dislocating. Thanks for any help!

Luxating Patellas can sometimes fix themselves. You don't really need to confine her to a crate, but try to keep her from running around/playing like a madwoman or even jumping up and down on things. If you see that she wants up or down...pick her up and do so. As far as braces, they are probably made somewhere for a crazy price...but would your kitty even like to wear it? Would it make the situation worse?

Have you asked your vet about such braces?
