Hello,

The other day I was laying down and my brother came running up the stairs to tell me that some small kids in the neighborhood found a baby bird so I went to take a look. When I got outside there was a baby robbin hopping its way to the street. I went over and moved it away from the street then looked for the nest that It had fallen out of (with no luck). I brought it inside and looked on the internet to see if there were any wildlife rehab centers around but couldnt find any. I asked my dad if he knew if there were any rehab centers around that he knew of but he said that he didnt think there were. So now im here with a baby bird

I did a little research and found a little bit about what they ate so I have been feeding him. ANY SUGESTIONS ON TAKING CARE OF HIM? he's eating alot so I think he's helthey. This is my third day with him know.

Can you call your vet and see if they have any suggestions on where to take him? I think it would be in the Robin's best interest to be with a licensed rehaber. I'm glad you're kind enough to try to get the little fella some help :)

I agree with ferJenna. Your vet might know someone who privately rescues and rehabilitates wild birds. If not, try your local humane soceity, they often have wildlife contacts.

Its great that you are trying to help this little bird out, but raising a baby bird can be very diificult and time consuming. Also, do you still have your ferret? If you do make sure he can't get to the bird! Keep the Robin behind closed doors and talk to your family about not letting the ferret out without supervision.

I agree with calling a rehabilitator. In many states, it is against the law to nurse, keep, or even rehabilitate wild animals. That's the best way to help this birdie...keep him in a dark box with air holes and keep him warm until you are able to get him to a rehabilitator.

Yes, a rehabilitator would be great, but also at the same time if one cannot be found just keep doing what you are doing. That little bird deserves a chance to live, and I also have to mention something else that you may be unprepared for, but you must brace yourself for it.
After a certain point in time, and I believe after three days you have most likely reached it the mother will no longer "take the baby back, and it will need you for the rest of its life.

so illegal or not, most people are not going to say much if anything about nursing a helpless baby bird. "Just keep it, you just may have ended up with a new "accidental pet."

Now if you were to help a mountain lion cub, or that sort of "Wild animal, then you would very likely have a visit from law enforcement.

This is how an elderly couple ended up with their bird. It was just a fledgling baby and it smacked into their patio door, and they nursed it back to health so now they've had DoDo bird for about 11 years now.

and Dodo loves them dearly and definately demands their attention.

Please keep us posted about this baby ok.

If we can we'll all help you the best that we all possibly can.

Katiem, Dodo, is the name my friend gave the little baby Dove that slammed into her patio door.

She called him dodo believing he acted like a dodo brain.............

She's an elderly lady, but she spoils this bird absolutely rotten......

Ah, now I understand! Thanks!

Although it would have been neat if it was a real Dodo! Just think, she'd be famous for finding a living specimen of a lost species!

...can the bird fly? You may be able to let him go back to the wild.

sorry Tiffers, at this point in the birds life it would be a bad thing to do if we want this bird to live.

It would have no idea how or where to get food without it's mother. Right now our friend is the surrogate mother, and it will need her until and or if she can get it to a wild life rehabilitator.

I'm sorry, but no one knows how old this bird is. The OP has said 'baby'...but, it could just be a small bird. It may just be a young bird...either way, if the birdy can fly, it's more than likely old enough to be left alone.

I am very strong about my point of unless the animal is obviously hurt or in danger, LEAVE IT ALONE. Humans do more harm than good in most cases if you have no eartly idea as to what you're doing.

Somehow I doubt it was just a young bird, but maybe, only our friend taking care of it at this moment will know that. But if it is only a fledling it will still be too young to fend for itself since its mama is not likely to take it back.

Perhaps our friend will let us know how old she thinks this bird is?

That's a good idea...

Does it have feathers? Is it completely covered in feathers or bald? Can it fly? Can it perch on your finger or a stick or anything? Is the bird eating on it's own? Drinking?

The bird is not able to fly, has a short tail and still asks for me to feed it. he is starting to wonder around a little more but just so you know the bird is a baby not a young bird so he still needs my help and i really can find a rehab center.

Have you tried calling around to vet clinics in your area? They will have a list of all the rehab centers in your state.
