A friend of mine has a male cat that had gotten crystals in his urinary tract and got blocked a couple times and the vet put her cat on a very expensive cat food, so far he has been alot better. But she cant really afford that cat food. Does anyone know of one that is cheap that works for cats with this kind of problem? I think she is using science diet.Oops no its called hills prescription food I think.

because of a 5 week bout with a uti, with an iffy outcome. my 15 month old female cat, Talia, needs to be on urinary tract food for the rest of her life. i know how expensive it can be. she is eating Purina 1 urinary tract health. the 5pound (i think) bag is about the same price if not just slightly more than regular cat food. the expensive stuff is the wet food. luckily, petco recently (may still) had Pro plan ut health cans buy one get one. i dont have to buy wet food until like september. if your friend can, maybe wean the cat off wet food, or if the cat insists, just give a little bit. the cat wont starve itself and if it gets hungry, encourage it to eat the dry. oddly enought a case of 24 cans of the uti food costs more than a 50 lb bag of grain for my horse. fantastic world it is when it costs more to feed a 10 lb cat than it does a 1,000 lb horse. which reminds me--i need to do another urinalysis sometime this week.
good luck with your friends cat. hope this helps.

I had the same thing with my cat. Hills prescription c/d is probably what she's on. That's what my cat was on. With MUCH research, I found that Nutro Natures Best will also help. It is also an expensive food but not as expensive and has many benefits to it. Whatever your friend does, she has to stay on top of this, even if it means using an expensive food.

My boy kitty had this problem last year! The vet food was $25.00 a bag!! Way beyond my budget! A friend of mine works as a vet assistant and she told me that the best food(cheap) is Friskies Special Diet(urinary tract health) wet food, and Dad's Urinary Health dry food! The magnesium levels have to be under 10%!!! My kitty loves it!!! He's been fine since August with
these products!!!
Hope it helps!!
