I Went By A Petstore The Other Day And Honestly It Made Me Sick To My Stomach, How These Animals Were Being Kept And Treated. And God Knows What Happens To These Poor Things If They Are Not Sold. Animals Should Not Be Treated This Way, Nor Should They Be Confined To Tiny Little Glass Boxes Like They Were Fish In An Aqarium.
So My Thought Is That We Should All Do Our Part And Adopt Some Of These Wonderful Creatures And Make Their Lives Better And Contribute To A Well Being Of The Whole Sosciety.

Every animal I own has been adopted from the Humane Society :) I will NOT buy one from a pet store.

I purchased my Rottie from a breeder, but my other 3 dogs and 3 cats and bird were all rescues.

Yeah, I do have a lot of pets, and it is a lot of work. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

I know the feeling! I'm used to having 3 cats on top of me and four dogs surrounding my bed at all times. When I stay away overnight I find it hard to sleep without the constant din of snoring, purring and farting!

I usually ask my friends or anyone i know to consider adopting first before buying pets from store... i feel sad that there are a lot of poor animals in the shelter waiting for someone to pick them up.

If you are just looking for a pet, I think the shelter is very best place to look. I got the best dog I ever had out of the pound. I also couldn't image not having her at the foot of my bed at night. Even when she takes up a lot of room and I can't stretch my legs.

what i meant was that even if a breeder cannot sell their dog, they will still mostly likely take great care of it. whereas if a pet store or shelter dont sell their dogs or give them away they most likely put them down :(

All of my animals are rescues, besides our lizards. Everyone should realize that once most people stop buying from pet stores, there will not be a use for puppy mills, since selling to stores is where they make most of their money. There are so many needy animals out there that need homes. By adopting, you are saving a life will in turn taking money away from the puppy mills and other pet farms/suppliers and contributing to what will hopefully be the end of them one day. Pet stores claim to care about animals, yet it's clear that they do not when they sell animals from those horrid suppliers. At least most places like Petsmart don't sell cats and dogs these days (at least not around here). They allow shelters to bring the animals into the store and hold adoption events in the store instead. Every pet store should team up with shelters instead of selling animals, but they want the money! Bringing people into the store to adopt and in turn probably buy some pet supply items is not enough for them. They want the bigger money that purebread dogs can bring in. In all of this talk, we cannot forget the smaller companion animals such as fish, hamsters, mice, amphibians, rabbits, etc. that come from suppliers that are just as bad as puppy mills, but not nearly as publicized. Few people seem to realize it is not only cats and dogs you can find at rescues. There are rescues for virtually any sort of animal out there. If there isn't one near you, it isn't hard to find a responsible, caring breeder.
