I am worried about Dexter today. He has done nothing but sit and scratch himself ALL OVER. Could it be his down feathers itching him? I have noticed some little tiny pieces of fluffy down all over too. I gave him a bath this morning hoping that would help. I'm not sure it did though. Any ideas?

i believe its molting season, at least for my cockatiel...i've been reading a lot of owners mentioning their cockatiel is molting from other boards...not sure if this is the molting season for greys...that's what my cockatiels been doing lately--scratch himself all over...

Nikko, my Timneh, is also in a molt. It can get pretty frustrating for them this time of year.

My Parrot also is scratching alot. I am bringing her in for a good check up. It could be more then molting. It could be parasites. She does this all the time. I thought it was cute at first ,now it seems to be all the time.I bath her every other day. This method had helped just a very little. You might want to bring your baby to the vet to have a good check up. My parrot also just reciently started to pick at her feathers. At first I thought she was playing with the ones that fell out. Then I noticed her feathers are pulled out or broken off at her right leg. So please bring your pet in for a check up,to be on the safe side.

Sounds like it might have something to do with molting. If you use a certain pet store regularly to purchase your bird's food you might try asking someone there about Dexter's itching. I talk to the people at the pet store I frequent all the time and often they have great advice. 'too crazy is using a product called "Molt Ease" to help Barney with his scratching/feather picking and I think she mentioned it was helping some. You could try it also. I've found that I need to bathe Angel daily especially during the summer and then in evening she sometimes needs misting as she will start to scratch or pluck. Unlike dogs where they tell you not to bathe frequently or you'll dry out their skin -- birds are the opposite as water seems to hydrate their skin. I sure you know all this ........... but I am just mentioning what I do since you asked.
Good Luck.
