My friends dogs scrach at the door when he's not home.He would keep them in but they would poop in the floor :(

He could try getting a metal bump plate and screwing it to the bottom of the door. They sell them at most home renovation type stores. That way if the dog scratched it wont damage the door.

Your friend could try a few things:

1. House train the dog. Few simple modifications to transition the dog from being left outside in the elements all day to being allowed in the house.

2. Don't allow the dog access to the door, maybe a fence w/in a fence (assuming they have a fenced in backyard already.)

That's our neighbor's problem too before, they poorly practice house training their dog before and always leave outside and scratch the door. They started crate training and giving him enough exercise and glad with the improvement.
