Well, it's raining the bottom out today, and it's Caley and Cheyenne's first thunderstorm. Everything was going ok, until the first big clap of thunder. Caley and Cheyenne both took off running, with Cheyenne quickly coming back and settling into her usual sleep spot of directly under my feet. But Caley headed under the love seat, and proceeded to bark loudly at the thunder for the next several minutes! She's such a big, brave girl!
However, they just announced that a tornado has been spotted in the area just to the northwest of us, and a tornado watch has been posted just to the northeast of us!

Aren't those spottings scarey!!!! While we were in Florida in February we had a tornado set down just down the street. Please be sure and check in with the next few days so we know you all are ok!
That must have been so funny watching the different reactions of all the pups to their first thunderstorm. Now is the time to teach them not to be afraid of it.

Once she realized it wasn't barking back at her, she settled down. Cheyenne hasn't re-awoken, so she's cool with it.
Back when I was a working mom, we had one touch down in the parking lot of the building I worked in. It was an all glass 10 story building and I was on the 5th floor. We watched out the windows as the whole world went black, and then the transformer across the street from us blew with a shower of sparks. The windows bowed in and then out, and then the darkness started clearing up. We had a covered parking garage in the back of the building and everybody that had parked there lost the windows out of their cars. My car was parked in front of the building near the street, and got sand-blasted but no broken windows. It was really awesome to watch, and scary at the same time.

Oh that had to be so awesome ................but as you say - scarey as all get out. I would have been holding my breath. Glad no one was harmed.

I only had my car for about 6 months then, we bought it brand new. And the insurance paid to have the whole thing repainted, which was good since there was a big dent in the roof from a pine cone. And assorted scratches all over. My then husband's cousin does body and paint work, so he fixed all the dings and repainted it for the amount the insurance company was willing to pay. Just like brand new again!

Wow, goosebumps. One of those things, fascinating and scary as heck at the same time! I LOVE thunderstorms, but I'm worried about how Alaina will be. Have you ever had any problems with your kids trying to wake you up in the middle of night from a thunderstorm? I'm wondering if there are any easy ways out of it...

My kids were ok with storms, except for Tiffers, she was terrified of them.

My cats are usually cool with thunderstorms and thankfully so is Kaylee. We've had a few roll through since we brough her home, it will be interesting to see how she does if we have one blow up while we're out camping and in a tent.
I agree with dlaura, please keep us posted to let us know you're okay. The bank software we use has their headquarters in a little town in MO just east of the OK boarder. I placed a support call to one of their divisions on Monday and the guy who called me back was a programmer who was helping cover support calls because over half of the staff was out of the office due to storm & tornado damage to their homes. It's been a really bad season this year, I feel for you guys out there. :(
BTW as a child I was terrified of storms and always woke my mom up. Now they don't bother me as much.

Poor girls! First thunderstorms can be stressful times. Luckily you were at home with them, that must have made it a little better for them.
I lucked out, 3 out of 4 could care less about thunderstorms. Loeke hides under my desk and shakes through the night, and if I move you'd better believe that he's coming with me!

GOOD GRIEF LADIES!!
I live in California and I would much rather have the earthquake every now and then rather than tornadoes and twisters every year. That would scare the daylights out of me

We only get an occasional tornado, the main problem here is the hurricanes. But, when you grow up with them, they aren't as scary. I guess if I'd grown up in CA then I'd be less afraid of earthquakes!

Yeah, it can be funny watching how they react. We had our first rain with thunder today since the pups were born. They are staying outside now in their 8ft X 8ft dg house except at night. The rain came and at first they were in the house with mommy. Then I guess they decided to explore this strang new stuff. They went out into the rain and they had the best time. UNTIL: the rain got harder and the thunder started. No lightning though, just thunder. Well instead of going back in the house with mommy, they stood at my front door and cried for their second mommy to come and get them. This was the boys only though. The little girl was smart enough to be with mom. They cried and cried and scratched the door. My husband didn't want them to come in because they were wet and muddy and stinky. But I just couldn't let my little babies stand there and cry so. I brought them n and dried them off. Each one had to tell me how bad it was and licked me all over to show me how wet they had been. They both curled up in a ball at my feet and went to sleep.
Oops, another long, drawn out post. One day I will learn to be short. Ha, Ha, not!!!:D

I love thunderstorms, I wish could have a few around here. My father (& other relatives) lives in Texas and I loved visiting during the summer with all of the storms.
Chico hates loud booming noises and the ballpark down the street has fireworks nearly every Friday night during baseball season. He's ok with it as long as he can see me.

At least they would explore the rain, the week I was babysitting Angel, we had a day of solid rain, no thunder just constant rain. I had 4 puppies in the house all needing to go outside to potty, and not a one of them would step foot outside! I even carried the lab outside to see if the others would follow, and all I got was wet and muddy as she didn't even get her feet on the ground before she was trying to run back up the steps into the house! LOL
