I decided to to breed my Cockatiels these summer since I'll be home and have time for babies. I got them their nesting box last weekend and they seem very interested. The whole family is really excited. If we do get babies, I'll post pics of them weekly. Wish us luck.

Yeah, I hand fed cockatiels before. I hand fed my Grey too. She was only ten weeks when I got her. On top of that I did loads of research for this occassion. I want to breed African greys when I move out of my parents house.

Where are you going to get it from? Are you getting a Congo or a Timneh? I actually planned on getting a Congo, but I knew when I saw Hayley that she was the one. African Greys are great birds. I wish you luck on finding your perfect baby.

Oh if my tiel hatched babies....I'd probably fall in love and keep them all and that would probably present a problem in our household.

Me Again..............
Wow, two eggs - it seemed so fast from the time you said you had got the nesting box and got an egg then another!!!! Wish you much success with them!
Our parakeet laid eggs a few years ago, but they were not fertilized. After a few weeks we removed them and low and behold about a week later she laid three more. Finally had to remove the nest to keep her from killing herself. It worked...she stopped laying eggs.

dsimko, timneh are darker grey in color with maroon tail and they are also smaller than the congo. Congo's are lighter grey with red tail. Apparently, they both have the same talking ability and same personality type. For some reason though (and I'm not sure why), the congo is the more popular in the pet trade. Usually, timneh's are cheaper than congos (maybe because there is less demand for them?).

What colors are your cockatiels? I almost got a pied yellow-cheecked but the breeder changed her mind and decided to keep the chick when the DNA test came back and it was a male.

The female is a cinnamon pearl, and the male is a pearl pied.

I have more news. I held the oldest egg over a flashlight yesterday, and saw red veins. So I know for sure that there fertile now. Also there's a new egg. I'm hoping for 5. Three of them already have homes. I have to wait to see how many she has before I start promising more of them to people. There's a few of my friends that I refuse to give them to. I hope they don't get mad at me. Some of my friends wouldn't be good for the birds. I only want the best for my grandchildren. I'm so excited.

How exciting.
Also, you are a good, responsible caregiver. Good luck in finding the appropriate homes for all your chicks.

Going by Pretty's egg laying schedule, we should have had another egg this morning if she were going to lay more. Since she didn't I we have 4 eggs. There is still a possibility of more but doubt it. I'm expecting the first egg to hatch around July 6th or 7th. I'll have pictures up as soon as they start hatching. Just thought I'd let you know what's going on.

This is so exciting! Four sounds like a great number! Are you planning on hand-feeding? And, what type of nest box are you using?
Shockadine

Yes, I plan to hand feed the babies. I've hand fed quiet a few cockatiels before, but this is the first time I ever actually bred my own. I've been doing alot of research.
The nest box is your average wooden nest box. I bought it from a pet store.
