ok well it seems I can't go 2 months with out finding I food I think looks better for my bird this time I have a reason Barkley has gottin pretty skinny but not sick she still eats and plays I think it's just because the food I have her on doesn't have enough of what she needs so when I opend up my bird talk yesterday I saw an ad for a KAYTEE bird food that has pellets and seeds along with other stuff it looks great! did anyone else see the ad and what did you think about the food? I'm going to look it up online and then go buy some.

Was it the "Fusion" stuff? That's all I can think of that sounds similar at the moment. My lovebird is looking thinner as well, though mostly because he's been flying more. I keep giving him more food to eat though. Today I used an apple peeler and got really thin slices of carrots with it, and he loved them. Not helpful in putting on weight but still a good food.

Speaking of food...has anyone tried the parrot candy bar type treats on their birds? They just got some at the PetSmart here, so I bought one. It wasn't that big of a hit with my birds (I didn't like the taste either, lol) but I was curious if anyone else's birds like them.

I didn't get my BirdTalk for this month and it seems like everyone else got their copy...speaking of bird food, I feed my bird Kaytee, not sure which one but it has seeds and pellets, perhaps were talking about the same thing...i have a question, i watch my bird when i give him vegetables to see if he's eating them...it seems like he puts them in his mouth but doesn't swallow...and when i go to the pet store i would ask how old the birds are and usually they are younger than my bird but they seem bigger than him...i'm wondering if my bird is not eating enough

That Fusion stuff did look good for them.. buuut Oli gets terrible when I leave seeds in his cage. He just sits and eats and eats and eats! Soo I could never give him something like that. He'd not touch the pellets and eat himself sick. I just give him a nutriberry or two a day so that he still gets his intake of seeds w/out pigging out. Silly boy.

HAHAHA, that's great!! I tried those parrot bars on all my birds. Some liked them, some didn't. Mieko likes almost everything so of course he just gobbled them up. When I had the parakeets they liked to play with it more than eat it...Storm of course just took it and threw it in his water bowl because that's what he does with ANYTHING that's even semi shaped like a ball...

the Tropimix. It has no seed but nuts, veggies and fruit along with the pellet. The fat content is a bit higher than normal too. Oliver (goffin's 'too) is my pickiest bird, and he took to it instantly, as did the other birds. He is gaining weight slowly now and does really eat this mix good.
There are different sizes etc. Eveything is shelled so their is no waste there.
I don't know what it retails for, I got lucky and found a large breeder relatively close and she orders 1000 lbs every 6 months. so I pay her price. I freeze the extra so it is great.
Also there are no chemical additives or perservatives. Which i think is a HUGE plus. They use orange oil for flavor and carrot powder for color, if memory serves.
On the downside it does crumble a bit, in a 25# bag there is about 1 1/2 cups crumbled. I just use it to make birdy bread.
Here is a link if you want to check it out.
There are other products on that site as well, if you were looking just for the pellets instead of a mix.

Kaytee, I think has been upgrading their product for awhile. It used to be on about the same grade as Pretty Bird brand.
The biggest things to watch in any food labels are the chemical additives and sugars.

please check your pets food for ethoxyquin (i think that;'s how you spell it) many kaytee & la feber brands have it as a preservative- & it TOXIC to birds who get it in the long run.

please check out harrisons or foundation formula- they are organic, and don't have the nasty stuff. with the internet & UPS, there's no reason not to give your birds the best! here's where i get my food:

i bought a "candy bar" for my birds, but they weren't as in to it. so now i make homemade treats that they like better (cheaper & healthier, too!)
