Hi everyone!

We are having a problem after adding a new kitten to our household. We had two cats (mother & daughter) for about two years. The mother was killed three weeks ago. The daughter was very lonely, we thought, so we adopted a kitten, who is about 2 months old. Our cat, Wink, is very upset with us. When she sees or hears the kitten she either hisses or runs away and hides. She's not eating. Is there anything we can do? Should we have waited longer before adopting?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Do you have them seperated at all? Not all cats but some should be seperated in the beginning. The daughter should have run of the house, the other put in a room with its own litter box.

Also maybe give the daughter some special treats and lots of attention. Sorry to hear about her momma, what happened?

Sorry to hear about the momma cat too.

I did nearly the same thing a year and half ago. I had 4 cats (at the time. One has since passed away) 3 were elderly girls and one was a young (under a year) male. I figured he needed somebody who would play with him, so I adopted a slightly younger male for him. (lol - a true pet lover always gets pets for their pets...)

Anyway, Indy, the resident male, took exception to this. He was so mad at me and my normally cuddly little boy couldn't even bear to be in the same room with me. I was heartbroken.

Well, after about 2 weeks, Indy settled down and is now fast friends with his playmate, Smudge. He has forgiven me and is once again my cuddle bug.

Just give it more time, follow Cat&Dog mom's advice above, and eventually they may accept each other. It doesn't ALWAYS happen, so you also need to be aware that you may be disappointed.

Good luck and keep us posted!
