I was just wondering what you all do to make sure that your fids stay properly entertained while you are gone. There are only four days a week that Peppers will be spending about 4-6 hours by himself, the rest of the time, atleast one of us is home but I want to make sure he doesn't get lonely.

I was thinking about going out and getting him a CD with nature sounds and one of classical music that we could alternate for him but I wanted to know what everyone else suggested first. . . So what do you do to keep your fids entertained while you can't be around?

I've had house guests that tell me whenever I'm not home, mine sleep.

They say my house is like a tomb. So quiet, until the birds hear my car.

Then all awake, and my house is as I know it, always noisy with chatting birds.

You may find Pepper is the same, and just kicks back until his one and only returns....:)

Other than that, give him soft chewy pine to play with, some parrots love interactive toys, others love to bang and make noise! One of mine had a birdy music box, that he loved until it finally broke. Toys will help while away the hours you are gone.

Soft wood chew toys are like the only type of toy I don't have for him yet. I already planned on stopping by the store tonight so I will pick some up.

Matt is home today and said that he has been very quiet and napping a lot of the time. He's just been hanging out on his playgym and the top of his cage because he's not sure yet if he wants to hang out with him or not.

One important thing to remember is not to do so, so much that you overwhelm yourself and cannot keep it up forever. Whatever you start now, Pepper will expect to continue and if someday your schedule changes (say you have a baby and don't have extra time) Pepper will still expect all the stuff you start now.

That said, I know some put their TV on a timer so it comes on during the day to entertain the bird. Along with that you could also have radio set to come on at another time.

There are also interactive toys and puzzle toys you can get for your bird that will help entertain him. They are puzzles that you put a nut or something in and the bird is kept active trying to figure out how to get the food out.
