What is the best brand of food for birds? They eat kaytee right now. My cockatiel is on forti-diet, and parakeets are on egg-cite. Thanks :)

I'm really not sure what brand is best. I think it varies. I know some pelleted formulas either are veggie based or fruit, seed is varied.

Kaytee seed I've heard double talk about it and have used it personally. This is my thought about it. Kaytee yes is perhaps the best seed based formulation to give your birds, but I have found that a seed diet leaves my feather charges feeling hungrier.

So I've gotten to the point I prefer "Mixing seed with pellets, but I still prefer the pellets, and I currently use the Pretty Bird brand.

So no, I do not think Kaytee is that great that is if my opinion counts for much at this point.

Roudybush, and Harrisons are two of the best pellets on the market.

Make sure your seeds are alive and not dead. Do this by trying to sprout them. The sprouts themselves are full of nutrition and great for you bird.

Offer more vegetables than fruit.

Beans are a good addition, along with whole grains: pasta, rice, bread.

The best diet is one that is inclusive and varied of the items above.

What do you guys think about feeding a mix of Pretty Bird species specific for Amazons and Harrisons. The PB would pretty much be like a treat added to his pellets for a little variety. The PB for Amazons has seeds and nuts in it so I thought it might offer him a little variety.

I use the Pretty Bird pellets and their seed formula and am happy with it so far, but I think you'll find what you want for your bid will vary with him cuz he is a unique individual. I say just try it out first to see what you think and then if you aren't happy with it switch, but if you like it stick with it for the most part.

So far I know he likes the Harrisons best but he also LOVES nuts and seeds.
