Bandit went potty in the house this morning.... bad puppy...
Anyways, there was something in his poo that looked like a rubber band, or maybe baby grass or plants, you know when it first comes up. It was flat. At first I figured he'd just ate some grass, and flushed it. Now I worry that maybe he has worms that need to be treated. Cricket has a vet appt for shots at 1:00, if Bandit goes before then, I will take in a sample.

OK, my main question and point of posting this....
Bandit and Cricket both are on Hartguard Plus, does this prevent hookworms? or help them? The box says to treat and control ascarid and hookworm infections, so does that mean that it really was grass, or is there still a possibility of it being worms?

First off, the human eye cannot and will not EVER see HookWorms. The only worms we will ever see are Heart, Round, and Tapeworms. Roundworms as Ascarids are Roundworms (look like Spaghetti), so with HeartGard, you're protected from all of these except WhipWorms (which you will also never see) and TapeWorms (which come from fleas and look like rice). If the dog is on Heartgard, every month on time, an infestation could not get to the point of pooping out worms. If your dog is pooping out worms, it's generally a pretty big infestation.

I would bring some poop in for a testing anyway, to be sure. It's always better to be safe than sorry...

are you sure it wasnt a rubber band? I know it sounds silly, but when i was a kid, our dog ate a pen cap and when he pooped it out, my mom RUSHED to the vet with it in a bag thinking it was something awful because she couldnt tell exactly what it was.. they cleaned it off at the office and it was a fully intact PEN CAP.. bad puppy..

Was it flat and wide, or narrow and thin?

I am thinking grass or a rubberband... It was flat, longer than a tape worm piece should be...(cat had those before). Bandit is on heartguard, and was just tested last month, so I dont think he should have worms.... but I am gonna follow him around the yard tomorrow to get a sample to take in just in case. oh yeah, and it was a yellowish almost pale greenish color, which is what got me thinking grass... I have been pulling alot of weeds lately, and the dogs love to trash my "pile" before I get em bagged. Lazy me doesn't bag as I go.....

i wouldnt doubt that its a piece of grass. I watched my dog poo something out that TERRIFIED ME. I guess he ate a bud from a bulb that was planted in my yard. It looked like a giant green catelpillar pod, like a green cocoon.. but it was solid, and when i poked it it came apart like an artichoke would. It totally freaked me out.. but atleast i figured it out.

looks like worms to me... ask your vet for some dewormers.
