We have 2 mini-daschunds 1 male and 1 female (both have been spayed/nuetered) and get along fine. Now comes along puppy. He is now 8 months old and we bought him for the ability to hire him out then get a female in order to breed. At this point though he has started some odd behaviour which possibly may be normal? First from the start he always wants to mount the older dog, then starting this week he started mounting the female dog. The female has some sort of scab/sore on here back end above her tail which I wonder if the puppy had something to do with this as he has been licking it contunually. If we seperate him or her he starts to whine and bark.

Ideas please or we will go insane :)

PS We never owned a dog that has not been spayed or nuetered.

Those are all common behaviors dogs engage when they enter sexual maturity. 8 months is prime time for that.

This is hard to stop from a training perspective. Mounting and licking the female are instinctual behaviors.

I would keep them separate as much as possible. When they are together, watch for signs that the pup is about to mount, and then stop him and make him sit right away.

If you are planning on keeping an intact male with a female, spayed or not, this is a behavior that you will most likely have to deal with forever.
