I'm trying to figure out exactly which cage I want to order for Peppers. I have a few that I like but I can't really decide which is better. I know that the cage he is in right now is pretty tall but he doesn't even really go down to the bottom. I also know that his old cage was a playtop and he really liked it.

That's the playtop I've been looking at.

That's the round top. It seems like he would have a little more room in the round one. What do you guys think?

I was thinking about going the next size up in cages but I figured I would be better off using that extra money towards a better play gym and some really good toys and perches for his cage.

ETA. Oops, somehow I lost the link to the playtop. . . I'm going to go find it. It is the same cage though size wise, except for the top has a playstnad instead of being rounded.

The cage your looking at is only 30 x 24, I'd go bigger if Pepper is an active player. If he's not, then it will most likely do. How active is Pepper? Round tops (I have one) make it harder IMO to hang toys, and play tops come in very handy. I have both types. I like the play tops better.

I feel the cage is your most important buy. Your parrot will live in it for the next 35 to 65 years. Buy the best and biggest you can afford. Ply gyms are nice, but don't skimp on the cage for a stand.

The size really depends on Pepper. My smallest Too is very active, and her cage is 36 x 36. My Amazon had a 36 X 24, and did not really like it. For him, I went down a size, to a smaller cage. He is much happier. Perches and toys are a buy that is never ending. Play gyms tend to multiply in my house also. I now have at least one in every room.

Don't worry so much about the smaller items such as stands and toys. You'll have years and years to upgrade them.

The cage that he is in now is a little larger but he is not a very active bird. I actually think that he would do better in a wider cage rather then a taller one and in that way, the play top would be better too.

It looks like the next size up from the 32 inch is the 40 inch cage. That is a little large for the space I already have set up but I can get it if you think it would be better.

Don't get confused with written sizes. They measure using the skirting also, that can add inches Pepper doesn't really get. There are two measurements, look for the interior dimensions.

I usually end up taking the skirting off my cages, it takes up so much room.
