people in glendale are killing cats, since an over population of cats in this town, the humane society will not do anything, what they tell you is to use you imagination when it comes to getting rid of them, there is an organization that will catch and fix them for phoenix but no there is a junk yard right next to my house and the owner is poisening them, i know poeple who go by there and feed the cats once a night but found out the owner was useing their food to poisen the cats! help!!!!!

That's terrible. There are some cats in a shelter here in Seattle rescued from a colony that was being poisoned... if the Humane Society won't help though I'm not sure what the next step is. A group of concerned neighbors I guess, if you can gather one =/ I'm gonna keep thinking on this one; there must be a way.

there is simply no excuse for that, nor is it a good thing for the humane society to do nothing about the situation.
Most humane societies that I know of are in contact with other humane societies, and should start asking other organizations if they can take the cats, until they've all been rehomed.
as for the junk yard man, that's a tough one. I think I'd take a friend, and 'confront the guy, tell him you know what he's doing, and you'd appreciate it if he'd stop and help you get these cats into an appropriate shelter.
It literally took me three to four months to get a cat, "Bootsie" into a no kill cat shelter." but it was the best thing for her cuz she hated us, and our original cat fought her like there would never be a tomorrow.
but also keep in mind that some humane societies operate on a, "foster home only kind of thing to. Could this be the problem?
I know the Utah Critter Sanctuary has taken in a number of animals from other states, they mainly do birds, and minks, ferrets, but I do not know if they do domestic cats and dogs. You'll just have to visit their website and find out.
Cuz I do know they do occassionally make trips to Arizona when birds there are in trouble if ohter sanctuaries haven't taken them in.
They even at one time offered to care for U.S. soldiers pet birds while they were deployed.
so start making a few phone calls and see what you can do.
good luck.
keep us posted too.

that's really sad... they should do something intelligible than make drastic actions to solve the problem.

people just truely disgust me, there is a organization that fixes them for us but they let them go back in the place where they get them as long as we promise to feed them, but phoenix does not think of cats as pets they think of them as free rang animals, thats why we arent even told we have to get them license or rabbies, as for the junk yard man, he was stealing the food my neighbors were giving them and adding poison to it the cops were called but couldnt do anything becaue its such a problem in phoenix with wild cats that people dont treat them as animals only as meer rodents, if only there was a way i could set an organization up to build a place for wild cats that sets certain large containing areas for them to still free rome but not be able to get harmed by public, like catching all the cats in a "pride" and putting them in this place one pride in each at least they could live not worring about being killed, or touched by humans, dreams all dreams though, too many if ands about it darn it but i think we all wish we could do this for any animal, sad but its happening, i had an orange male come to my back window all my girls staring at him, but he wasnt afraid of me too much, he rolled on his back and was all cute, ( and yes all my girls are fixed) lol but it sucks seeing how dosile he was even though he wasnt tame, it once again reminds you that they are still cats even if they dont want you to touch them...........

Perhaps you should contact the HSUS directly on this to see if they can help.
That was my first thought also. The HSUS should be contacted. What about the local newspaper or T.V. station? Maybe if it gets on the news animal lovers and animal rights activists will get involved and stop the horrible things that are going on. The key is to get the word out there. Even though there are cruel people out there, there are also a lot of caring people too. Please let us know what you decide. Good luck. lbee

Try contacting Best Friend's Animal Society too. From what I can tell, they do a lot of work involving things like this. I know they have an office in Kanab, UT, just north of the Arizona/Utah border.

It may be that someone else who cared as much as you found out and began trapping them. These cats could be tucked away safely at a shelter now and that's why you aren't seeing them. Cats aren't stupid. I'm fairly certain they would've made the connection that food from the junkyard could kill them. Try to keep thinking positive and keep an eye out for any remaining kitties.

If they do start showing up again, call the Humane Society (I know you've already done this but.....) get them to give you a quote or a statement. Then bring it to the local newspaper. Any media exposure, especially when it involves animal cruelty is a huge community 'no no'.
I truely don't know why people can't be more respectful and kind to the innocents. It really is heart wrenching!

With an attitude such as that they should be ashamed to call themselves a humane society!
