Hey I was wondering has anyone ever owned a golden retriever?

yes, I have a female, spayed golden. She will be 6 years old in a few weeks. Incredible dogs, those goldens. What do you want to talk about?

Well, let's see, I'm a groomer, lol, in a bathtub or with a hose, tie them so they don't take off all soapy. They take alot of soap and alot of rinsing to make sure you get all the soap. They can really make a mess if they shake before you get them toweled off, but no, they're not the hardest to bathe.

Welcome to the board Sara. I have had two retrievers in my lifetime and they were and are both wonderful dogs. Our first loved being sprayed with the hose and we couldn't wash the car without her barking to be sprayed -- it was quite funny. Amber, our current retriever doesn't care much for being squirted by the hose but will tolerate it. I prefer to use the hose method as originalfatc said they love to shake off the water and can make quite a mess if you use the tub. They also shed quite a bit of hair during a bath and could clog your tub if not careful. Goldens are wonderful dogs - if you decide to get a golden you won't regret it.

Hi Sara

I use to breed Goldie's year's ago
Never had trouble in the bath
The trouble was when you had finished
Drying them and they looked lovely with
there coats looking really golden and shine
If you do not keep an eye on them.
They will look for the dirties place they can find and roll in it
Which means if you are getting them ready for a dog show its
hard work. As you have to start all over again
The dogs did not mind as they seamed to like getting another bath.
Always make sure that you dry them well.

My doggies are lab/golden mix. They both just have THE best personalities. Gentle, sweet, loving and a little ornery but never mean. I can't even express how much I adore them:) Mine tolerate baths very well. They both stand still while dad soaps and I rinse. All four of us in our small bathroom is probably an AFV (America's Funniest Video) waiting to happen! The shaking is messy but I just hold up a towel and wait. :D
Good luck and if you get one you will surely love him/her.
I posted pics of mine if you'd like to see them.
