I posted here the other day about my puppy Bindi, I had some fantastic advice from people on these forums as to what to do. I googled all the ideas people gave me and Oh my goodness do I have a different puppy already after only a few days :D
I'd like to especially thank Lindsayanng & macawpower58 who steered me in the right direction and a HUGE thank you to 5kidsnadog who put me onto the NILIF training program.
The NILIF is working out marvellously although i do have to still get a crate to complete the program. With 4 kids at easter time and the fact my daughter's (supposed MALE) cat having had 4 kittens, i'm holding onto my money at the moment incase of any medical expenses with the kittens. But as soon as the kittens are sorted out I will definately get Bindi her crate. I have faltered a couple of times with Bindi which I know i shouldn't have as it might confuse her (it's hard to change a dirty baby nappy with a puppy who's inquisitive) so i un-tethered her and put her outside a few times with situations like that but as soon as I get her crate that will solve the problem and all should go well.
NOW ONTO THE GOOD NEWS !!!
Since starting her on the NILIF she is a totally new and improved Bindi. She use to eat her meat and leave her vegies and I was just leaving it so she'd eat it when she got hungry, i don't do that now. I hold her leash firmly tell her to sit AND stay before she eats, i give her 10 minutes to eat it all or i take it away. She now eats the WHOLE lot. I give her 5 chances to stay or i put her food away and walk away come back later and try. Last night she stayed on the 3rd try. If I untether her and walk out of the room she no longer cries nor does she follow me around the house crying if she can't get to me which has been a huge relief to know she's not crying and upset. She is now walking rather well on the lead and only tugging at it every now and then if she sees another dog, although this is improving aswell. Last night a puppy Whippet was walking behind us she was wanting to go back to it but instead she just kept walking but still looking behind her at the puppy. The puppy came up and sniffed Bindi and i stopped to let her say hello to him AND she wasn't boistress or anything with the puppy which surprised me because the other puppy was a timid little thing who layed down when i stopped but Bindi was very polite to him which was so much less embarrasing then before when she would jump all over other dogs. OH goodness there's heaps of other improvements too but to shorten it up let's just say she's coming along in leaps and bounds and i'm so very proud of her.
Lastly i mentioned in my other post that she gave our son Xander a warning nip a few nights back. Well good news is we think we know now why she did this and we are currently also training Xander too. Xander is 2 next month and it seems he is fascinated with her private area (as he is his own aswell he thinks it's a cool toy to play with), well we've caught him a few times grabbing her there and pulling and twisting and as my husband and i have both said if someone were to do that to any of us humans we'd have definately fired up and hit back. So if it is the case that, that is what Xander did to Bindi to make her give him a warning nip, then really she can't be blamed for that because we know it would of hurt her and in-fact we're very pleased she was gentle enough to just give a warning and not a full bite.
So once again A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped to put me in the right direction with Bindi. She's got a long way to go and I'm still learning my own training with her but i'm confident we've got the problem sorted out and it's all uphill from here so thanks again to everyone.
