watching the news and hearing all of the talk from PETA officals about the 800 dog seizers....

so my question is why is PETA there.. personally i dont believe in there philosophy and while i know i guess they mean well. but then you have to 100% fair.

if they care so much about dogs and rats then you have to be fair when it comes to fishkeeping.

As isnt animal cruelty animal cruelty and isnt a fish an animal just like a dog?

I love it how there are people who cry to the river about dog cruelty YET they have a goldfish in a bowl or ten gallon.

Its just funny how people dont understand how goldfish arent small and they dont live in bowls or smaller aquaria.

Goldfish need at least 55 gallons for two 14 inch fishes.

So my point is, PETA joke or Na**s ... you know if your going to cry and cry about one thing, you better cry for all of it 100% fairness.

And it is rediculous how so what a dog is being kept in a small house....boohoo(the dog isnt being mistreated) and then PETA people cry.. and then they have their goldfish in a bowl and have to replace it every week as it keeps dieing....

I guess you are right Bettachris, ashamed to admit it but I had never thought of it that way BUT should have. Guess it is time to educate the public on what proper protocal is when keeping fish. I have been reading your articles and you had helped me in the past about what to put in my 2 gallon tank. But I am sure that did not scratch the surface on what I should know! I think a lot of people are going to be shocked about the amount of space our fish need to be healthy and lively. I know I was.

so it is the same thing... thats why i feel that peta is joke IMO keep that in mind. IMO IMO . I know a year or two ago i brought up those websites with fighting bettas. Um.... i wouldnt be surprised if they were peta people complaining about mistreatment of animals.

So all i wanted to say was, if you peta people are watching... before you be 100% about a topic, it must be 100% fair for all.

they want to see somepeople lose the right to own animals... interesting concept. to be 100% fair, anyone who buys a goldfish and doesnt have a tank that can hold a 20-25 inch right should be able to own pets ever again. The same can be applied with silver arowanas, i hear threads after threads ofpeople who buy these fishes for 10 gallons, where this fish will reach 60+ inches and need no less than 500 gallon tank at least.

So back to the point of being fair. or realistic

I am surprised that you had not have more responses to this. Actually I think it is great that we have a member like you that has an abundance of knowledge and willing to share on our site! So, I thank you so much for all the times you have educated members (as myself lol) and been here for the long haul!
GREAT JOB!

i just wanted to say i 100% agree too.. i dont like PETA for more reasons than just the fish keeping, but ya know what - they're there and theres nothing i can do about them..

I wish people felt about fish the same they do about their cats and dogs.. Our fish are the ONLY fish that have a file at our vet's office.. MOST people wouldnt bring a fish to a vet, or go to a vet for medication, but surgeries have been done on some fish to keep them alive.. it just depends how much emotional value you put into this animal, some people feel the same way about fish as they do about cats and dogs.. it depends on your values.
