I have a 3yr old pit mix and he has been having some loose stools and a gurgling stomach. He will do this for a day and then about a wk or two wks later he will do it again. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

Loose stools can be alot of things. Closely monitor what he eats. No tidbits from the table - see if that helps. Another thing you may want to do is have your vet do a fecal check. Parasites can cause diarrhea and it would be a good idea to rule that out.

Styhan, macassie is right it could be a number of things. Since it is spring and you weather is pretty similar to Mi. Have you fertilized the lawn, do you have any gardens he could be getting into? Or any thing else. Are there any other sypthoms?

My dog has a sensitive stomach. And I went through what you are going through. I took mine to see the vet in Knoxville and ruled out a bunch of possibilities...bottom line: my dog cannot handle ONE crumb of table food. He will sneak and find some though and he will coax the children into giving him a "bite" and then his stomach starts acting up. I give him a little bit of plain yogurt with active cultures to help add bacteria to his tummy that he loses from vomiting/loose stools and he gets better. Wouldn't recommend anything for you though; that is just what works for my dog.

I agree with person that mentioned parasites. Alot of different worms, whip, hook, etc can cause diarreha and sometimes bloody stool. My dobe had whip worms when she was in the shelter. The vet recommended I give her Immodium AD (liquid kind) over the counter. And basically follow instructions on box. This helped her get over it quickly (along with the whip worm treatment). Good luck.

One of my dogs almost died from eating table scraps..this is the first dog I ever had that couldn't eat human food... his system couldn't handle it and he spent a few days at the vet with IV's trying to save him... we had him on meds, yogurt, cottage cheese, rice and boiled chicken until he got better.. then gradually gave him high quality dog food and he's fine now... absolutely gets no table scraps!.
If this continues, I would take him to the vet. Best of luck to you.
