Good Morning everyone! My name is Virginia and I have had Tiana since she was 3 days old. I had to bottlefeed her and her siblings (they died shortly after I got them). She is going to be 5 years old at the end of the month. She is a traveling cat, having lived all over the country. She is a Tabby mix with Siamese (one of her siblings looked just like a Siamese). I am currently pregnant (1 month to go!). Here is the problem. Her old litter box room had to be changed b/c she kept peeing in there on the floor. I think it was b/c another cat (we rent an apartment) peed in here and she didn't like it. So we closed off that room and moved her litter box. She was fine. Then she got some UTIs and we got those fixed. She is currently eating the special food and gets plenty of water (from the tub of course). Well she pees out of spite now. At least once a week. This morning after I cleaned her box out put new litter in and went to the other bathroom she checked to make sure I was in there and came out and peed on the carpet! I just dont know what to do! She is my baby but once our son comes I can't risk her peeing on the carpet! She doesn't really like the attention I give her but she loves my husband. Does anyone have any ideas? I am at my wits end! Thanks! Nice to have found this website!

I would venture first have her checked for bladder infection, cats often *blame the litterbox) if urinating is painful or uncomfortable.
If that's ok, I would consider adding another box, many cats like a seperate box, one for pooping, one for peeing. My 3 boys are that way, one is poop only, the other pee only and the 3rd is a spare if I don't scoop often enough to please them.

Hi Virginia,
If you are sure she does not have a bladder infection, (like originalfatc said), And she is physically fine, then my next question is, are you cleaning up after her?
You may already know this and taken precautions, but just to be safe, I think I should remind all pregnant women that they should have nothing to do with their cats waste.. There is a bacteria in their waste that could be harmful to the baby.
Some women use gloves and masks to keep themselves save from that bacteria, so you should ask your doctor to see if that precaution is good enough.
As far as your cats peeing problem. I have couple questions. Is she fixed? Is she always peeing in the same place or all over? If she always goes in one or two place, you may have to move her litter box there. If she is going all over, she may be trying to mark her area from that other cat(s )smell.
First have the area cleaned and sanitized, professionally if you are able to.
Then take a towel and rub it all over your cat, play close attention to around the chin, neck, ear area, then rub that towel all over where she had peed. (Repeat several times.)
I watched a program somewhere that said, that cats have sent gland in those areas and although we can not smell it, they can and of course, they are more comfortable with their own sent than any other cat(s).
It seem to help in the program, so I tried it when I moved my cat and was having problems with her. I couldn't believe it. IT WORKED....
Another thought is to ask your vet if she could be having an reaction to her new special food ??
I am no expert, but I hope somehow this information helps. :)

First of all welcome to petlovers and good luck with the new baby! Your first? I have a 4 year old and a 10 month old...enjoy every moment because it flys by! Did you just recently move? I agree with the others, first be positive that there is no medical problem. Interesting idea sweetbriars, sounds like an easy fix! When we first got our cat he always peed in the same spot and it was not really an option to have the litter box there. We completely cleaned the area (fortunately it was not carpet) and totally blocked it off. Whenever we saw him sniffing around there we would take him to his box. It worked and he has not had an accident sense. Once you get the problem solved definitly have the carpets professionally cleaned because you are going to want to let your baby crawl all over when he gets big enough. Keep us updated and good luck!
