Our Cat That We Had For 5 Years Died About 2 Years Ago. My Children Were So Upset That We Didn't Dare Get Another One. We Decided To Get My Daughter A Cat For Her Birthday. We Went To The Local Animal Shelter And She Picked Out A Beautiful 6 Month Old Kitten. As Soon As We Got Him Home We Discovered That He Had Diarrhea. But, Not Only Did He Go In His Box, But Everywhere In The House. I Mean Everywhere! Behind My Entertainment Center, On Our Bookshelf, On The Top Of My Kids Toy Box. We Brought Him To The Vet And They Wormed Him For Parasites The Shelter Did Not Treat And That Took Care Of The Diarrhea. It Didn't However Stop Him From Pooping All Over The House. He Prefers To Poop On Towels Or Clothing Left On The Floor, Bathroom Rugs, Clean Clothes Folded On The Couch (you Get The Idea). My Husband Is Threatening To Get Rid Of Him, But This Is His Only Fault. I Have Tried Spraying Him With Water, But That Only Works If I Catch Him And That Isn't Very Often. For Now We Keep Him Locked In The Bathroom When We Leave And Clean His Litter Box Once Or Twice A Day. If Anyone Has Had This Experience And Has Some Tricks To Help Me I Would Be Forever In Your Debt!

I would take him back to the vet to rule out any other medical problems. You may want to try keeping him in the bathroom, with a litter box for a few days and see if he starts using it. He may not understand what the litter box is for... maybe put some poo in it to see if that gets his attention. Good luck!

That's Just It, He Does Use His Litter Box. He Just Seems To Enjoy Pooping On Certain Fabrics. Clothes And Towels Left On The Floor And Especially My Kids Fluffy Bathroom Rug. We Have All Tried To Pick These Things Up Quickly And Shut That Bathroom Door, But He Has Gone As Far As To Go In The Clothes Hamper! Help!

Welcome jojo'smom, I wish I had some advice for you, I think Squaksk3 has some good advice, keeping him in the bathroom for awhile. Maybe use a different type of litter? I'm at a lose.

You may want to consider Irritable Bowel Syndrome. My kitty does exactly the same thing, poops everywhere! It does not help to isolate her with the litter box. Her stool is also runny, she has never had a solid bowel movement yet! I would consult your vet. They may prescribe prednsone.

Well, I have an update on Max's pooping problem. I took him to the vet and they could not find an reason for his diarrhea or his pooping all over the house. I called the animal shelter where I had purchased him. They also agreed that he was obviously sickly. They agreed to take him back and gave us a wonderful grey and white kitten we named Zoe. She has been the addition that our family needed. Everyone was heartbroken that Max was not able to be cured, but we have found that Zoe fits perfectly into our lives. Thanks so much for your advice. God Bless!
I do hope that you made sure Max has gotten a new home.. hopefully the shelter won't just euthanize him!
