I have posted on here that my sister's dog had a litter of puppies a few weeks ago, shih tzus. I was over there on valentines day (forgot the camera, srry no pics) and saw that they are having problems with Brandy "doing her business" all over the house. She came to greet me, and I bent down to pet her, and realized she was peeing! She seemed not to realize this at all. My sister said she has not even wined or barked to go outside since the pups were born. She used to before. She will poop while walking. My sister tends to think she just doesnt care anymore, but i feel there may be an underlying problem. Is there any possibilities here? any information I could pass on to hoplefully convince her to get Brandy vet checked?

I dont think she is afraid to leave her puppies because I was there for 3 hrs, and she was no where near the box the pups are in the whole time. Brandy will go out if you call her to go out.

Is this something that can happen after delivery? Any info or suggestions?

Well, I know with, humans, there is a possibility of the urinary tract being stretched out of place with delivery. And the muscles that are worked with contractions can be stretched too far. (personal experience here) So maybe dogs can have those same problems?

Absolutely! The poor thing may be in pain as well. Perhaps if she tries to hold her urine it hurts?

Having puppies is such an ordeal, I can't believe she hasn't taken the mother in to be checked. She could have easily got an infection or tore something.

You really should try and convince your sister to get her dog seen.

Yes, I agree, and will keep at her about it. Just looking for more information to sound like I know what I am talking about. I will keep at her with or without the information, just looking for that edge...

And possibly trying to talk her into giving me Brandy after the pups are weened. Brandy has always smelled like sweaty feet. I am hoping if I can get her, and get her spayed the smell will go away? Do some dogs just smell naturally? or maybe something that can be treated?

I know what you mean. My Cookie always smells 'like an old wh*re!'

She just had pups, too, and the smell will just about knock you down. I'm hoping that getting her spayed after the pups are weaned will help with the odor, but I've never been faced with this situation before, either.
